Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City is now officially open 24/7/365 and we are now seeking additional full-time experienced veterinary technicians/assistants to join our team!
EAH has proudly been serving our community for over 22 years, and we are excited to now be able to offer 24/7/365 care to our clients and their pets. We treat canine and feline patients on an emergency basis and see exotic species for both general practice and emergency care. We pride ourselves on our culture, with a high retention rate and a collaborative, supportive team. Our veterinary technicians/assistants play a crucial role in providing support to our veterinarians and ensuring high-quality care for pets. This role involves working directly with animals, assisting with medical procedures and treatments, as well as performing diagnostic tests while offering compassionate care to both pets and their owners.
We are looking for someone who is professional, dependable, punctual, and passionate about caring for our patients. The ideal candidate will be a reliable, highly motivated team player possessing excellent written and oral communication skills. They will want to be an integral part of our practice as we continue growing and evolving as a hospital and team.
This is a full-time position. Compensation for this role is $22 - $28 per hour based on experience, with opportunities for overtime. A shift differential rate of $5 per hour applies to overnight shifts. Double time and a half pay is offered for working during designated holidays. We offer flexible shift scheduling: Shifts are typically 10 or 12 hours during the day, evenings, or overnight. Employees are not required to work every weekend or every holiday, but some weekend availability, as well as holiday availability is required. Responsibilities
- Providing general nursing care to outpatients and hospitalized patients
- Performing diagnostics (radiographs, phlebotomy, etc.)
- IV catheter placement
- Administration of medication and treatments, as ordered by a veterinarian
- Facilitate communication between veterinarians and clients
- Treat all clients and patients with professionalism, respect, and empathy
- Monitor patients under general anesthesia
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health system
- Run in-house lab samples (we have a full suite of IDEXX in-house analyzers)
- Maintain hospital cleanliness
- Input charges, process payments, and finalize invoices for clients
- Create and present estimates for treatment and diagnostic plans to clients
- Answer incoming phone calls and field client questions and concerns, transfer phone calls to the appropriate person, take accurate messages
- Provide clients with clear and helpful information to educate them about their pets
- Promote a positive client experience
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Our hospital will be open 24/7/365. All employees are expected to have night, weekend, and holiday availability.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of two years experience working as a veterinary technician/assistant
- Registered Veterinary Technician license valued but not required
- Emergency experience and experience in anesthesia and surgery is preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with clients and team members
- Lifting and restraining: Being able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist level, and to move patients from stretchers to tables
- Standing and walking: Being able to tolerate standing and walking for long periods of time
- Manual dexterity: Having a steady hand to handle animals, medical instruments, and laboratory equipment
- Physical stamina: Having the endurance to meet the physical demands of the job
