Senior Software Engineer, Fleet Management  (Full Stack/Frontend Leaning) 

Viam is a full-service engineering platform that allows everyone, from developers through enterprises, to configure and control physical devices in a data driven and intuitive way. Whether you're managing one robot or physical device (sensors, cameras, IoT) in a lab or a fleet of thousands in the field, Viam enables seamless cloud-based control and insights. 

The Fleet Management Team is responsible for building and scaling the Viam web application. We are looking for a senior engineer to help shape the user experience for how our customers configure, deploy, and monitor fleets of their devices.You’ll have the opportunity to join a small, fast-paced team where you can play a role in the technical design of an innovative product in the robotics and IoT space.    

All current team members are based in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role (3+ days per week). 

You’ll be:

  • Building tools to enable Viam’s users to easily configure and deploy fleets of devices.
  • Creating dashboards and visualizations for device connectivity and availability status.
  • Designing public APIs used by our various SDKs to manage fleets programmatically.
  • Supporting a reliable, scalable user experience across a variety of platforms and devices.
  • Developing and maintaining our web application (Svelte/Typescript, Golang, MongoDB, gRPC, Protobuf)
  • Given opportunities to dive deeper into robotics, Internet of Things, and other areas where software meets hardware.

We’re looking for someone who: 

  • Brings full stack experience, but is especially excited to take on frontend challenges.
  • Has built fast, responsive, and delightful web experiences using modern frameworks like Svelte, React, or Vue.
  • Is comfortable designing and consuming APIs, and knows how to make that integration seamless.
  • Has experience with server-side patterns and databases, and can write efficient queries and services to support a great user experience.
  • Passionate about mentoring engineers and working across teams.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment where there is a strong belief in shared ownership and in-person teamwork.

The starting salary for this role is between $175K-220K/year. Your offer will vary based on several factors, including experience level, skillset, market location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced or more senior than this job description as posted. In these situations, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.
