Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Platform team, you will build software that solves complex problems while considering long-term strategy and direction. You will lead the development of complex, data-driven user interfaces in Angular or React, with a strong emphasis on state management, data flow, and performance at scale. You will deliver simple, elegant, and extensible solutions that handle large datasets and real-time campaign data, ensuring the UI remains responsive and accurate. You will collaborate across Product, Design, and Engineering to build intuitive experiences, while also working with backend systems and data layers to ensure efficient data access and correctness. 
 
Primarily supporting Viant’s DSP, you will collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Technical Operations teams throughout the entire lifecycle, from ideation to productization and beyond.

THE DAY-TO-DAY

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Angular applications using TypeScript.  
  • Architect and implement robust state management solutions and model complex client-side data flows.  
  • Build data-intensive UI features such as dashboards, reporting tools, and campaign management workflows.  
  • Take ownership of functional areas of the platform, including API development and improving observability.  
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to support application functionality and debugging of data-related issues.  
  • Partner with backend engineers to ensure efficient API design and data contracts.  
  • Analyze and troubleshoot data discrepancies across frontend, APIs, and database layers.  
  • Optimize frontend performance, especially around large datasets and real-time updates.  
  • Mentor Platform staff in software development practices and concepts.  
  • Manage all phases of the software development life cycle, including design discussions and code reviews.

MUST HAVE

  • 8+ years of professional experience in the software industry. 
  • Deep experience with Angular and TypeScript.
  • Strong expertise in state management patterns.  
  • Experience building data-heavy, interactive applications such as dashboards or analytics tools.  
  • Solid understanding of asynchronous data flows, event-driven architectures, and client-side data modeling.  
  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries for application support and reporting.  
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and understanding backend data models.

GREAT TO HAVE

  • Minimum B.S. in computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience with backend technologies such as Java or Go.  
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, especially AWS and GCP.  
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks like Jest or Cypress.  
  • Exposure to container-based architecture, NoSQL databases, or message queues.  
  • AdTech experience is a plus

Base compensation range: $140,000 - $200,000
In accordance with California law, the range provided is Viant’s reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role.  Final title and compensation for the position will be based on several factors including work experience and education.
