Head of Engineering

East Coast - USA

We are looking for an engineering leader to scale Vibrant, a blockchain-based mobile wallet. Vibrant started as the Stellar Development Foundation’s in-house wallet app to provide inflation protection in Latin America and has expanded internationally, including to the US, to unlock additional financial use cases. Vibrant functionality currently includes digital dollar savings, yield, peer-to-peer transactions, swaps, bill pay, cash-in/cash-out via various methods, and more on the Stellar Network. Vibrant’s next exciting chapter is to become a standalone entity outside of SDF.

As the Head of Engineering, you will lead all technical aspects of Vibrant and lead the strategic technical direction during the spinoff and beyond. You will drive product development strategy, lead a team of engineers, and work cross-functionally to identify, experiment and iterate on new product features. You will also own system performance, maintenance, security, and organization IT.

We’re looking to grow Vibrant to millions of users. The ideal candidate will have experience with full cycle development of a mobile app, broad architectural experience, and prior experience with experimentation, release and deployment of a large-scale consumer application in addition to having led high-functioning engineering teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to build an innovative mobile crypto wallet on a well-established layer one blockchain in a startup environment.

In this role you will:

  • Lead all aspects of the design, development, and growth of Vibrant’s tech stack.
  • Act as a mission-driven engineering leader, bringing high energy, enthusiasm, and a positive, can-do attitude to the team. Lead the team through hands-on example and personal passion for our mission.
  • Promote sound engineering practices and process improvement within the team, creating and delivering the technical roadmap on time with quality and focusing on usability.
  • Initiate, influence and drive technical projects to ensure our solutions are scalable, architecturally sound, flexible, secure and that technical debt is incurred consciously and repaid in a reasonable time.
  • Design and evolve the organization structure based on business needs and provide mentoring, coaching and sponsorship for your team.
  • Partner with the product, design and other cross-functional partners to develop overall vision, strategy and roadmap for our engineering systems and product suite.
  • Administer systems and tools for the Vibrant team as needed.

You have:

  • 8+ years experience as an elite-level contributor in the software and technology world.
  • Prior experience as an Engineering Manager or Director of Engineering at a high-growth, scaled technology company.
  • A broad engineering background and deep experience leading full-stack teams with some experience in mobile development.
  • Hands-on experience with Go, React, React Native, Redux, Typescript, Jest, and/or Firebase.
  • Proven success developing and delivering complex, scalable, and highly reliable solutions.
  • Experience leading products that involved integration with 3rd parties.
  • Expertise in architecting, deploying, and managing applications and infrastructure on AWS with services such as EKS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, AWS Secrets Manager, and best practices for cloud security, cost optimization, and scaling.
  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering efforts through high-growth phases. Experience building processes, infrastructure, and teams to support rapid scaling.
  • A proven track record of building and leading strong engineering teams recognized for high productivity, excellent morale, and low turnover in complex and rapidly evolving environments.
  • High integrity, principles, and ethics, creative problem solving skills, and the ability to ignite the creativity of others.
  • BS, MS, and/or PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred.

You are:

  • Able to define a technical strategy and direct teams to invest in our core technical foundation and developer velocity.
  • Able to earn the trust and respect of the team on the basis of crisp execution, technical depth, hands-on style, and decision making ability.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment; can simultaneously demonstrate strategic, big-picture thinking as well as tactical attention to detail. Technical, hands-on, and willing to roll up the sleeves to support the team as needed.
  • Someone who directs and inspires people to generate and implement breakthrough solutions. You are not afraid to take calculated risk and you bring a mentality of rapid innovation and the desire to attain big goals.
  • An experienced leader who makes people and teams around you better through direct yet kind feedback, effective mentorship, and proactive collaboration. You thrive when developing great people, not just great products.
  • Well-versed in data-driven and data-informed product development and able to think strategically and analytically to help solve complex business challenges under pressure.
  • Driven to succeed, achievement oriented, self-motivated with high integrity, principles, and ethics. Values diversity of talent and thought in building teams.
  • A good communicator and highly influential both externally as well as internally at the senior management level.
  • Continuously deepening industry knowledge/expertise.

Bonus Points:

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
