JOB FUNCTION

The Legal Associate will be a strategic addition to our Legal and Compliance team, working primarily on investment funds legal and regulatory matters. The role will report into the Deputy General Counsel while working closely with the Chief Compliance Officer, Associate General Counsel, and other team members. The position offers significant growth potential and mentorship opportunities.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the investment funds legal function, including reviewing and updating offering memoranda, subscription documents, limited partnership agreements, and other investor-related documentation
  • Collaborating with the Chief Compliance Officer and other team members on regulatory and compliance matters related to marketing initiatives and investor communication, including reviewing marketing materials, quarterly letters, pitch decks, presentations, and talking points
  • Advising on US and non-US marketing laws and providing the Investor Relations team with regulatory guidance
  • Keeping apprised of regulatory developments relevant to funds and marketing, and providing updates to key internal stakeholders; liaising with outside counsel and other departments as needed
  • Managing legal entities and related governance matters, such as forming new entities and maintaining signature resolutions
  • Reviewing and negotiating counterparty documentation, including ISDA and PB agreements
  • Supporting the Firm’s broader funds-related compliance efforts, including advising on Form PF and Annex IV reporting
  • Working closely with senior legal team members on firm-wide projects and initiatives

Additional responsibilities may include general legal matters such as vendor and consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other miscellaneous matters as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • JD and outstanding record of achievement from a highly regarded law school
  • Membership in the New York bar in good standing
  • 3-5 years of work experience at a top-tier corporate law firm
  • Investment Funds experience is required
  • Experience with the Advisers Act Marketing Rule is highly desirable

  • High integrity, strong moral principles, and an ability to deliver advice: intellectual honesty and the ability to deliver advice in a confident, non-confrontational way are critical for success
  • Strong organizational skills: we manage large amounts of records and information
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn: the ideal candidate will be flexible in taking on various responsibilities across the legal and compliance spectrum

 The base salary range for this position in New York City is $250,000 to $300,000. In addition to base salary, Viking employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, 100% coverage of medical and dental premiums, and paid lunches. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be individually determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications.
