JOB FUNCTION

Viking is looking for a Finance and Compensation Professional to join the compensation team, which sits within Finance and reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The role is instrumental in the design and execution of the Firm’s evolving compensation processes, and will report to the Director of Compensation and Financial Reporting.

The Finance and Compensation Professional will partner closely with their manager to design and operate strategic, cross-departmental workflows, propose and refine compensation frameworks, and develop a deep understanding of the market context for compensation firm-wide. The team is also responsible for making and checking complex, critical, and often time-sensitive calculations, and for partnering closely with Human Resources, Accounting and Tax, department managers, and service providers. This hands-on role offers a mix of data modeling and analysis, workflow and project ownership, and reporting and coordination for a variety of stakeholders and decision-makers. The compensation team handles extremely sensitive information, so it is critical that the new team member be able to display discretion and judgment.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Thoughtful planning and precise execution of compensation workflows
  • Complex calculation management, including identifying and implementing efficiencies
  • Supporting the administration of the Firm’s carry programs, including participant-level calculations, allocations, and reporting
  • Preparation of high-quality analyses and materials for managers and key decision-makers
  • Accurate and timely administration of multi-jurisdictional payroll, including liaising with service providers and Human Resources
  • Producing and optimizing payroll and compensation-related reporting for departmental stakeholders, including Tax Compliance, Corporate Accounting, and Human Resources
  • Playing a key role in administering the Firm’s 401(k) plan
  • Partnering with Recruiting on offer processes, surveys, and other research and workflows
  • Evaluating third-party advisors and compensation technology, and helping implement automation and process improvements

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 or more years of experience in accounting, finance, an analytical human resources role, management consulting (i.e., strategy and compensation), or a similar analytical role; one to three years of experience in a compensation role preferred
  • Ability to design, run, and report on quantitative analyses
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and a drive to obtain maximum leverage from systems
  • Carry programs: experience with carry programs or other long-term incentive plans is a plus
  • Compensation technology: experience with Anaplan or a comparable compensation planning and modeling platform is a plus
  • Payroll systems: Workday Payroll expertise, including hands-on experience running multi-jurisdictional payroll cycles and building payroll reporting, is strongly preferred
  • AI fluency: experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to accelerate analysis, modeling, or reporting workflows, paired with sound judgment about checking and verifying output, is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize and work in an environment with competing demands
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

The ideal candidate possesses the following traits:

  • Discretion and accountability: handles highly sensitive compensation information appropriately, and takes ownership of individual responsibilities and work product
  • High bar for quality: exceptionally precise, with a low tolerance for error in critical and time-sensitive calculations
  • Focus on efficiency: looks to improve how the work gets done rather than simply execute it
  • Planning and organization: skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing a workload across competing demands and deadlines
  • Customer service orientation: responsive, clear, and credible with stakeholders across the Firm and with external service providers
