Documentation Intern

Colchester, VT

VIP is seeking a detail-oriented Documentation Intern to support the Knowledge Team in completing a series of projects to help us update our customer Help Center. Each project will involve repetitive work, some of which will require basic research and problem solving. Please see “Get to know the position” below for more information, including descriptions of two of these projects.

Position Type: Temporary (1-3 months), Hybrid - will be required to report to our office in Colchester, VT

Start Date: Flexible, but starting no later than September 1 and ending no later than December 12

Starting Pay: $15.00/hour (non-negotiable for internship)

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks at a computer for the agreed-upon hours.
  • Ability to follow detail oriented instructions.
  • Ability and tendency to ask questions if anything if unclear.
  • Ability to conduct basic research.
  • Interest in learning and using HTML (or familiarity with it).

Get to know the position:

Please ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you relish ensuring that all details (even the ones that may not be noticed) are consistent, accurate, and precise?
  • Do you enjoy getting in the zone with repetitive work on the computer?
  • Can you follow detailed instructions to a T?
  • Do you recognize when you’re unsure about something, and ask questions for clarity?
  • Bonus: Are you curious about what it’s like to work in a role that involves explaining complex processes in user-friendly language?

If your answer is "Yes" to most or all of these, you and this position may be an excellent fit for each other.

Example projects of this internship:

  •  Example of a more straightforward project: We need to remove a small piece of HTML code from hundreds of articles. You would need to open each article, remove that code, and republish the article. You would need to notice if the article has pending changes, in which case you should save the changes, not republish.
  •  Example of a more complex project: We need to replace hundreds of links in our Help Center that are currently broken or go to our old help site. We have a tool that helps you identify these links. You’ll need to dig a little to figure out where each link should be linking to, then make the replacements.

What you can expect from us:

  • Orientation to the platforms we use (Zendesk Guide is the main one) and to the HTML we use.
  • Detailed, easy-to-follow instructions for each project.
  • Flexibility to switch between tasks, as long as you’re making progress.
  • Flexible hours, as long as you communicate ahead of time and work between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm.
  • Friendly, helpful teammates who are eager to answer questions.
  • So much appreciation!

How to apply:

Please send us:

  1. Your resume.
  2. A cover letter. Make sure to include the following:
    1. Why you're interested in the position.
    2. What aspect of the position you're most drawn to and why.
    3. A description of a project where you paid close attention to detail.

Please note: You don’t need an introduction and conclusion statement in your cover letter unless you’re putting actual information in them. We want to know if you can do this work well, and if you think you’ll find enjoyment or a learning opportunity from it.
