This is a paid Summer 2025 Internship. This is a temporary, full-time internship. Candidates must be able to commit to a 10 week program in Washington DC.
Compensation: $20 - $24/ hour

Team & Position Details: 

As a Web Development and Design Intern, you will be reporting to our Frontend Web Developer, working with a passionate team to evaluate, enhance, and maintain our brand experience across digital platforms (our website, socials, etc). We are looking for a versatile intern looking to gain experience in ideating, designing, and developing web experiences.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who is unsure whether they want to specialize in design or development, someone who is interested in becoming a design technologist, or a person who is curious about understanding product creation from ideation through delivery. 

Though we are a cybersecurity company, we do not expect you to have a robust background in security – most of us didn’t when we first started! We just want someone excited, curious, and willing to learn.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create responsive and user-friendly wireframes, prototypes. web designs, graphics, and visual elements using design software (e.g., Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Build reusable components, web pages, landing pages, and page templates
  • Create intuitive CMS experiences that allow Marketing Team members to easily build new pages that adhere to brand and design standards
  • Perform quality assurance testing to ensure that all web assets meet the highest standards of performance, speed, usability, and accessibility
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product, and Design teams to create effective web experiences and drive business goals
  • Stay current with emerging design trends, technologies, and best practices in web development and design, and proactively bring new ideas to the table

 

Requirements:

  • Foundation in Javascript, HTML, and CSS
  • Basic understanding of design software (e.g. Figma)  and prototyping
  • Basic understanding of UX and UI Design principles
  • Curiosity and excitement to learn 
  • Collaboration skills
  • Ability to work through complex problems and dig in when things get tough
  • Comfortable with asynchronous communication including Slack, email, Zoom, etc.

 

How to Stand Out: 

  • Basic understanding of CMS’s (content management systems) 
  • Basic understanding of SEO and Accessibility
  • Strong communication (especially when things go wrong, because they will) 
  • Strong eye for detail
  • Strong opinion, with the understanding that your way isn’t always the right way
  • Think outside the box and respectfully challenging your teammates and managers in the pursuit of excellence
  • Strong sense of urgency, with an action-oriented mindset

 

As a Virtru Summer Intern:

During the interview process, you will meet with your Manager and discuss role expectations, your interests, and your skills. As a Virtru intern, you will work closely with your team and assist with challenging tasks and responsibilities to help Virtru come closer to achieving our goals. And of course, if you would like to learn more about something, just ask. 

 

In the Internship Cohort, you will be managed by your internship coordinator and HR advocate, Bella. Organized events, such as games nights, career workshops, and speaker series sessions are planned and executed specifically for interns. 

 

As an important team member of Virtru, you will be included in company-wide meetings and events, including one-on-one sessions with your department’s executive leader (giving you a peek as to what it’s like working with us full-time)!. You will gain real-world, hands-on learning and contribute to critical elements of an enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) business. You will be joining a highly collaborative company, with the opportunity to reach out to anyone for questions, with a summer mentor and HR advocate to assist you with internal networking!

 

Events to note in the ten week summer session:

  • First week of Onboarding, just like a full-time employee!
  • Weekly sessions with your HR advocate, 1:1 and in a group setting
  • Two formal feedback sessions
  • 1:1 session with Steering/Executive Leader
  • In-office visit mentorship 

 

This internship is for learners ready to work in a connected hybrid environment. While we are not a strict 9-5 work environment, you will be responsible for timely responses in Slack, email, and meeting attendance.
