Technical Trainer

Washington, DC - Remote

About Virtru:

While the rest of the security industry obsesses over locking data down to prevent it from being lost or stolen, we're doing something fundamentally different at Virtru. We're setting data free so that you can intentionally share it with others, but without sacrificing security, privacy, or control.

We've created both a suite of powerful data protection applications and an open platform that's sparking an ecosystem of innovation. Through the Trusted Data Format (TDF) open standard, we're not just protecting data; we're creating a new paradigm where security enables sharing rather than preventing it.

Think of us as the Android of data protection: a robust platform with an open core that developers and partners can build upon, coupled with our own best-in-class applications that showcase what's possible when you reimagine security from the ground up.

Backed by Iconiq Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, Foundry Capital, and Tiger Global, we're helping Fortune 500 companies and government agencies discover that true data security means having the freedom to share, collaborate, and innovate — without compromise.

Team & Position Details:

Virtru's Technical Training team is scaling to meet the demands of our growing Data Security Platform (DSP) ecosystem — spanning customers, partners, and internal Virtruvians. We operate on a T-shaped competency model where everyone maintains a strong generalist foundation (50-70%) while developing deep specialized excellence (30-50%) in a specific domain. This ensures resilience, velocity, and quality without creating silos.

As the Technical Trainer, you will report to the Director of Training and serve as the primary live delivery resource for Virtru's Data Security Platform (DSP) training programs. You'll own the facilitation of instructor-led (ILT) and virtual instructor-led (VILT) training across all audiences — partners, customers, and internal Virtruvians — with a focus split of approximately 65% on live training delivery and delivery operations, and 35% on content validation, curriculum collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Working closely with the Director of Training and the Technical Curriculum Developer, you will bring the Data Security Platform curriculum to life through engaging, technically accurate, and learner-centered instruction. Your ability to command a virtual or in-person room, demo complex platform capabilities in real time, and translate deep technical concepts into clear, actionable learning experiences will be the standard by which Virtru's training program is judged externally. As the face of Virtru's training program, you set the bar for delivery excellence across every cohort.

What You'll Do

As a Technical Trainer, your responsibilities will include:

Live Training Delivery

  • Deliver ILT and VILT sessions across the Data Security Platform curriculum tracks, including partner bootcamps, customer onboarding, and internal technical enablement programs
  • Facilitate multi-day intensive training programs (e.g., Partner Bootcamps) with confidence, technical depth, and instructional quality
  • Lead live product demonstrations and platform walkthroughs — including DSP architecture, deployment, policy design, ABAC, TDF, and SDK integration
  • Guide learners through hands-on lab exercises and provide real-time troubleshooting support during lab sessions
  • Manage classroom dynamics across mixed-audience cohorts (partners, customers, developers, architects, and non-technical stakeholders)
  • Facilitate Expert Hour-style practitioner sessions, Q&A panels, and applied case study exercises

Content Validation & Curriculum Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary delivery validator for all new and updated curriculum — piloting content before external release and providing structured feedback to the Technical Curriculum Developer
  • Identify and document instructional gaps, sequencing issues, and technical inaccuracies surfaced during live delivery
  • Collaborate with the Technical Curriculum Developer and the Learning Experience Specialist on lab design, scenario-based exercises, and facilitator guides to ensure content is delivery-ready
  • Contribute to Train-the-Trainer programs to scale delivery across partner organizations as the certification program matures

Delivery Operations & Learner Experience

  • Manage pre-session logistics including environment readiness checks, lab validation, and learner communications
  • Execute end-of-session feedback collection and contribute structured delivery outbriefs after each cohort
  • Maintain delivery documentation including facilitator guides, session runbooks, and lab troubleshooting references
  • Monitor learner engagement and comprehension throughout sessions and adapt delivery approach in real time as needed

Partner & Customer Enablement

  • Deliver Partner Certification Bootcamps and maintain consistent, high-quality delivery standards as cohort frequency increases
  • Support customer onboarding training engagements in coordination with Customer Success and Professional Services
  • Build credibility with technically sophisticated partner and customer audiences through deep DSP knowledge and authoritative facilitation
  • Represent the Virtru training program externally — your delivery is the product

Internal Enablement

  • Deliver internal technical onboarding for new Virtruvians, including DSP Tech Essentials sessions and DSP 101, among others
  • Support cross-functional enablement initiatives — including GTM readiness, Sales Engineering, and product release training
  • Collaborate on internal dry runs and content validation sessions before each new external cohort

Skills that will help you thrive in this role:

Top Must-Haves

  • 4–7 years of experience in technical training delivery, technical instruction, sales engineering, solutions architecture, forward-deployed engineering, or a closely related role requiring live technical facilitation
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver technically complex content to mixed-level audiences — from hands-on developers and architects to less technical business stakeholders
  • Strong live facilitation skills — you can hold a room, adapt in real time, manage Q&A with confidence, and keep energy and focus high across multi-day programs
  • Comfortable demoing complex software platforms live, including navigating unexpected questions or product behavior during demonstrations
  • Ability to support and troubleshoot hands-on lab environments in real time, including command-line, configuration, and deployment-related exercises
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate deep technical concepts into clear, learner-friendly language
  • High technical fluency in cloud, security, data governance, or platform engineering — with the ability to credibly facilitate sessions on topics such as policy engines, ABAC, TDF, and container-based deployments
  • Experience with data governance, access control models, policy-as-code, or DLP/classification frameworks
  • Strong background with DevOps tooling, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure ARM), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), or modern deployment workflowsProgramming or experience reading code snippets (e.g., Go, Java, JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, Bash) to support SDK-related training delivery

Additional Nice to Haves

You don't need all of these, but experience in some of the following will accelerate your impact:

  • Experience delivering partner certification or technical enablement programs at scale
  • Background in instructional design or curriculum development — ability to contribute meaningfully to content creation, not just delivery
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, product, and customer success teams
  • Self-starter mindset — comfortable operating in ambiguity and building structure from the ground up

Virtruvian qualities that will set you up for success:

  • Thinking outside of the box to respectfully challenge your teammates and managers in the pursuit of excellence
  • Strong sense of urgency with an action-oriented mindset
  • Able to collaborate and adapt to shifting priorities as business needs evolve
  • Comfortable with asynchronous communication including Slack, email, Zoom, etc.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
