Vista Del Mar provides a trauma-responsive continuum of services to empower children, youth, and families in Southern California to lead fulfilling lives.
The Database Administrator is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and performance tuning of the organization's database systems, with a primary focus on the Electronic Health Record System (EHRS). This includes ensuring data integrity, security, compliance, and availability. The DBA also supports reporting functions and collaborates with internal teams to implement enhancements, troubleshoot issues, and manage integrations with third-party systems.
Essential Job Duties (other duties may be assigned):
- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize SQL Server-based databases and data structures supporting EHRS and other systems.
- Develop and maintain custom reports using SQL, Crystal Reports, and other reporting tools to meet operational, compliance, and clinical needs.
- Monitor database performance and implement improvements for efficiency and scalability.
- Manage and maintain data backups, disaster recovery procedures, and database restoration processes.
- Ensure database security protocols align with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with program managers and clinical staff to gather data and reporting requirements.
- Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes as needed for reporting and system integration.
- Troubleshoot database-related application issues, working with software vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Assist in the design and deployment of database forms, queries, and interface components that align with clinical workflows.
- Participate in the implementation of upgrades and patches for EHRS and related systems.
- Document database processes, structures, and maintenance routines
Secondary Duties:
- Support internal audits and data requests from regulatory and accreditation bodies.
- Coordinate with IT for infrastructure requirements affecting database performance or availability.
- Stay informed on industry trends, tools, and best practices in database management, security, and compliance.
Qualifications Required:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- At least 2 years of professional experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in SQL Server (2016 or later), including stored procedures, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Experience with reporting tools, especially Crystal Reports.
- Experience with database form design.
- Experience with EHR systems preferred (e.g., Welligent, SmartCare, or similar).
- Strong understanding of database security and HIPAA compliance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Project management experience.
Salary: $110,000 - $135,000 annually
