MISSION:

Vista Del Mar provides a trauma-responsive continuum of services to empower children, youth, and families in Southern California to lead fulfilling lives.

The Early Head Start Interim Nutrition Specialist Vista Village provides nutrition consultation and training for staff, parents, and family childcare
providers; maintains and monitors systems to ensure accurate, timely and ongoing tracking of children’s nutrition, and monitors adherence to policies and
procedures consistent with Head Start Performance Standards.

Essential Job Duties 

This is a part-time 6 months position**************************************

  • Plan, organize, coordinate and monitor nutrition services for all children enrolled.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to the family childcare homes including menu
    planning, meal preparation, meal service (family style), and evaluation of CACFP compliant
    nutritional program (EHS-CCP).
  • Provide nutrition consultation to staff and families in the office and in the field.
  • Conduct periodic observations of mealtimes in childcare settings (EHS-CCP).
  • Coordinate menu planning for socialization group, in collaboration with staff (EHS-HB).
  • Track and analyze children’s needs for nutrition services and set agency goals and priorities for
    nutrition.
  •  Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations governing nutrition services for Early
    Head Start children and their families, centers and family childcare homes.
  • Ensure that nutrition related policies and procedures are updated regularly; participate in Early
    Head Start monitoring reviews.
  • Review screening and ongoing assessment of children’s nutritional needs and provide
    consultation to staff, family childcare homes, and parents, as necessary.
  • Participate in Early Head Start Health Services Advisory Committee.
  • Provide training to family childcare providers to improve food service and sanitation techniques
    (EHS-CCP).
  • Provide training to staff on infant and toddler nutrition and safe food preparation.
  • Identify and track children’s food allergies in coordination with Health Specialists.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary specialist team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Represent Vista Village/VDM at community/professional meetings.

 

What you bring to VDM            

  • Registered Dietician Nutritionist.
  • Knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices of early childhood education &
    experience working with culturally and socioeconomic diverse children and families.
  • Knowledge and experience in current best practices regarding infant and toddler nutrition.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with other team members to ensure appropriate identification,
    follow-up and consultation regarding nutrition issues.

 

Salary: $36.00 - $39.00
