The Role

The Branch Director – Hospice is the operational and clinical leader of the branch, accountable for the overall performance, quality, compliance, and growth of hospice services. This leader owns the full branch ecosystem - people, patients, outcomes, and financial performance -ensuring a high-performing, compliant, and engaged team aligned to our core values: trustworthy, capable, compassionate, proactive, and called.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong clinical judgment, business acumen, and the ability to lead through others to deliver consistent, high-quality patient care and sustainable growth.

What You’ll Own

Branch Leadership & Operations

  • Lead all day-to-day hospice operations, ensuring seamless coordination across clinical, operations, and sales teams
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to drive census growth, operational efficiency, and market presence
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, engagement, and retention
  • Partner with regional and executive leadership to align branch strategy with organizational goals
  • Analyze operational and financial performance to identify trends and implement improvements

Clinical Oversight & Quality

  • Oversee all patient care services, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered hospice care
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards (ACHC readiness at all times)
  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance to CCMs and clinical teams
  • Maintain oversight of care planning, documentation, and interdisciplinary coordination
  • Drive quality assurance initiatives and resolve service or care concerns proactively

People Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain top clinical and operational talent
  • Set clear expectations around performance, productivity, and outcomes
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Build leadership capability within the branch, particularly with CCMs and frontline leaders
  • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture that reflects VitalCaring values

Financial & Business Ownership

  • Own branch financial performance including budget management, cost control, and productivity
  • Monitor key metrics including census trends, staffing models, and expense management
  • Implement operational strategies that balance quality care with financial sustainability

Compliance & Survey Readiness

  • Ensure continuous survey readiness through proactive auditing and process improvement
  • Maintain full compliance with all regulatory requirements and documentation standards
  • Educate and reinforce compliance expectations across all team members


Growth & Community Engagement

  • Support referral development and community engagement efforts in partnership with sales
  • Act as a market leader and ambassador for hospice services within the community
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion and operational growth

What You Bring

  • Active RN license in the state of practice
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred)
  • 3+ years of leadership experience in hospice, home health, or related healthcare setting
  • Strong knowledge of hospice regulations, compliance, and accreditation standards
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive performance, and manage operations
  • Strong financial and operational acumen
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
