We're looking for a detail-oriented, proactive Hospice Billing Specialist who understands the complexities of hospice reimbursement and takes pride in getting things right.

If you have experience navigating Medicare hospice billing, resolving claims, and protecting revenue integrity, this is an opportunity to put your expertise to work with a growing home health and hospice organization.

Remote Opportunity: Candidates must reside in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arizona, or Florida.

Why Join VitalCaring?

Founded in 2021, VitalCaring has grown to more than 100 locations nationwide. As we continue to expand, we're focused on building strong teams, improving processes, and creating an environment where talented professionals can contribute, collaborate, and grow.

At VitalCaring, you'll find a culture grounded in our core values: Trustworthy, Capable, Compassionate, Proactive, and Called.

The Opportunity

As a Hospice Billing Specialist, you'll play a critical role in supporting the financial health of our hospice operations. You'll help ensure claims are accurate, reimbursements are timely, and billing practices remain compliant with Medicare and other payor requirements.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and collaborating with clinical and operational teams to drive results.

What You'll Do

Own the Billing Process

  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate, timely hospice claims for Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and commercial payors.

  • Ensure appropriate billing across all hospice levels of care, including Routine Home Care (RHC), Continuous Home Care (CHC), General Inpatient Care (GIP), and Inpatient Respite Care (IRC).

  • Follow established billing procedures and applicable reimbursement regulations.

Protect Revenue & Resolve Challenges

  • Identify and resolve billing edits, claim rejections, denials, and payment discrepancies.

  • Monitor payments, reconcile accounts, and identify potential underpayments or overpayments.

  • Review documentation for accuracy, including Notices of Election (NOEs), certifications, recertifications, revenue codes, and discharge information.

Partner Across the Organization

  • Collaborate with branch leadership, clinical teams, and admissions to resolve documentation gaps and reimbursement challenges.

  • Maintain accurate billing records and communication within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • Support audit readiness, including Additional Documentation Requests (ADRs), Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE) reviews, and other payor audits.

Drive Accuracy & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain high standards for productivity, quality, compliance, and confidentiality.

  • Stay current on Medicare hospice reimbursement changes and industry best practices.

  • Contribute to a proactive, solutions-focused revenue cycle team.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of healthcare billing experience, including hospice billing experience.

  • Working knowledge of Medicare hospice billing and reimbursement requirements.

  • Familiarity with NOEs, hospice levels of care, claim submission, and denial resolution.

  • Experience using EMR systems and healthcare billing software.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting hospice revenue cycle operations, audits, and appeals.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clinical and operational partners to resolve billing issues.

Your Expertise Matters. Your Impact Goes Beyond Billing.
