The opportunity:
We're seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our team at VML Budapest. This hands-on leader will manage engineering teams, drive quality software delivery, foster innovation, and implement best practices with a strong focus on AI technologies. This is a great opportunity to influence engineering practises across our entire organisation.
What you’ll be doing:
Team Leadership & Management
- Provide line management including career development, performance management, and mentoring
- Build high-functioning teams through effective recruitment, retention, and professional development
- Foster a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
- Support senior engineers in client-facing roles, thought leadership, and innovation initiatives
Technical Leadership & Quality
- Drive awareness and adoption of new technologies, particularly AI
- Establish engineering standards through documentation, onboarding, and code reviews
- Implement and improve Agile methodologies and quality processes
- Support presales and client teams with technical expertise
- Set strategic and technical goals within broad outlines provided by senior management.
- In conjunction with your teams identifying and setting out best practice guidelines and reviewing team output to ensure adherence and consistency.
Resource & Business Management
- Collaborate with Resource Managers on team allocation and utilisation optimisation
- Forecast resource needs and identify skill gaps for strategic recruitment
- Support new business efforts through pitches, proposals, and technical solutions
- Develop accurate estimations and build relationships with key client stakeholders
What we want from you:
- Strong engineering and development background
- Understanding of Front End technologies such as React and back end technologies such as PHP Python
- Awareness of component based architectures and Database Selection
- Experience with Cloud platforms and serverless architecture (aws, azure, gcp)
- In-depth understanding of software development lifecycle and modern technologies
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Experience mentoring and developing Engineering/software teams
- Proven track record in recruiting, developing, and retaining technical talent
- An advocate of code quality, Continuous Improvement and industry recognised Best Practices
- Experience working in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary engineering department
- Excellent knowledge of Agile development practices
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken, written, negotiation)
- Strong communication skills with all the key stakeholders to ensure the Engineering team vision is understood and implemented correctly.
- Ability to motivate a team, recognise good talent and bring out the best out of each individual
- Ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding of resource utilisation and business development

- Master's degree in a relevant field
- Understanding of headless CMS setups (e.g. Contentful), experience in various commerce platforms and integration options.
- Experience with AI technologies and implementation
- Background in agency or consultancy environments
- Experience working in multinational teams
