Vocational Trainee - Drop in Floor Support

Position Summary:
WellPower's Vocational Trainee program provides experience to individuals who have a mental illness and who wish to learn a job or vocation. The goal of the program is to help individuals obtain work related skills and experiences that will lead to regular employment in the communities where they live.
Due to the large number of applicants, not every applicant will be selected for an interview or hired- selection is fit focused to meet program needs. If selected, each program provide 9-11 months of learning experiences meant to support preparation for competitive employment.

The posted range represents the full hiring range. Offers will not exceed this range, the majority of candidates are placed near the midpoint based on experience and qualifications.
Job Duties & Functions:
• Work with community members to assess their needs, barriers, skills, interests, and values, and then assist them with job search strategies/ employment searches, de-escalation strategies, finding education/ housing opportunities, or locating resources throughout the community
• Maintain cleanliness of common areas and refill supplies (coffee, tea, snacks, Daily Market)
• May work with individuals who need educational, physical, mental or emotional support
• Provide welcoming trauma informed atmosphere by maintaining personal emotional regulation and engaging in active listening and de-escalation techniques
• Assist with daily setup including but not limited to; serving lunch, turning on computers/ tv, preparing supplies/ resources, creating a tidy space, assist with room arrangements (moving chairs/ tables), Daily Market support and accurate data entry
• Debrief with staff/ supervisor about any concerns, situations, or escalations
Learning Objectives & Competencies to be Gained:
- Develop professional and empathetic communication skills
- Gain tools to remain calm and respond during a crisis (a situation is escalating, a person is upset, there is a medical emergency, etc.)
- Gain confidence in communicating challenges and ideas to co-workers, supervisors, and managers
- Communicate tardiness and absences in a timely manner to front desk and direct supervisor
- Communicate with fellow coworkers and supervisor in a professional and mindful manner
- Communicate any unethical behaviors to direct supervisor or manager
- Maintain sense of safety for ones self and others
- Communicate needs to fellow coworkers and supervisors and address safety concerns immediately including discovery of hazardous spills, sharps, drugs, etc.
- Communicate safety concerns to supervisor/ staff regarding self and others present, in and outside of the building
- Understand, abide by, and support Health Department compliance, including but not limited to safe food handling and distribution measures.
- Uphold and communicate ethical standards of practice
- Conduct honest processing and storage of products
- Provide consistent and fair distribution (placement) of products and shopping opportunity for all community members
- Respect individual goals, preferences, and cultural backgrounds
- Encourage independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.
- Support community members in achieving meaningful vocational outcomes.
- Enjoy personal shopping during allotted time blocks for vocational employees
- Understand, uphold, and gain comfortability communicating the Shared Agreements
- Strengthen problem solving and decision making skills
- Look out for and communicate, needs/ concerns/ complaints to immediate supervisor
- Communicate building/ program needs by looking for areas of improvement
- Communicate to fellow coworkers and immediate supervisor when products run low and need to be restocked
- Help community members address barriers to employment and independent living
- Collaborate on practical solutions and action plans.
- Adapt support strategies to individual circumstances.
- Daily Market set up/ stocking and breakdown
- Assist in setting up product before Daily Market opens
- Listen/ communicate and stock Daily Market as needed
- Ability to sit for long periods of time while maintaining vigilance
- Ability to utilize Teams via laptop to accurately track, call, and log shoppers
- Breakdown and undistributed product after Daily Market
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Actively enrolled in and receiving services by WellPower.
Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, sometimes in confined spaces or at heights. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures is common.
