Why this role matters:
The Metadata Manager will oversee the creation, management, and ongoing maintenance of the company’s metadata, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of data across the enterprise. This role is critical for maintaining the organization’s data dictionary, supporting data discovery tools, and enabling a structured approach to data classification. The Metadata Manager ensures that all data assets are properly tagged, governed, and aligned with the business objectives and regulatory requirements of the telecommunications industry.
This role ensures that metadata is a foundational element of the company’s data governance framework, enabling data accessibility, usability, and compliance throughout the data lifecycle. The Metadata Manager plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and structure of data assets, which are vital to business operations and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Dictionary Management: Maintain and support the company’s data dictionary, ensuring all data elements are consistently defined, cataloged, and available for business use.
- KPI Development and Tracking: Define and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of metadata processes. Regularly report on the health and accuracy of metadata.
- Metadata Discovery and Tools: Support and manage tools that allow for data discovery and identification of structured and unstructured data. Oversee tagging of data based on type, function, and criticality.
- Data Tagging and Classification: Ensure that data is appropriately classified across the organization based on sensitivity, retention requirements, and business importance. Manage processes for tagging and tracking data throughout its lifecycle.
- Collaboration with IT and Data Governance Teams: Work closely with IT teams to ensure proper metadata integration across different platforms and data pipelines. Align metadata standards with data governance policies and business needs.
- Data Retention and Audit Compliance: Track and manage data retention policies, ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements. Maintain accurate records of data retention schedules and metadata changes.
- Metadata Issue Resolution: Identify, log, and prioritize metadata-related issues. Collaborate with the Issues Manager and IT teams to resolve data discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in metadata management, data governance, or a similar role.
- Strong experience with data governance and metadata management tools (e.g., BigID, Securiti.ai, Informatica).
- Knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration techniques.
- Experience with data cataloging, taxonomy development, and metadata tagging.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, and industry-specific data privacy regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
