The Engineering team at Vonage is a fast-growing group of talented engineers. Our Engineers face multiple challenges associated with high performance, distributed systems, and processing large volumes of data in real time.

The team is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help us improve the experience of onboarding Partners and provide tools for them to manage the complete lifecycle of the customer journey.

This is a cross-functional position, you will be involved in modifying existing systems across the company, and creating new microservices from scratch. All the services the team owns are integral to the success of the business and are used widely by other teams or end customers.

What you'll do

  • Contribute to the architecture of APIs and Backend services.
  • Contribute to existing Backend Systems.
  • Design and drive implementation of new Microservices.
  • Assisting with in-life maintenance, testing, debugging and documentation of deployed services.
  • Full Software Development Lifecycle from requirements to deployment and operation in production.
  • Set high standards to ensure the delivery of secure, high quality, well-tested and scalable systems to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Mentor junior colleagues.

What you'll bring

  • Extensive Backend Expertise: 8+ years of hands-on experience in Java and Kotlin development using Spring Boot or Micronaut.
  • Database Proficiency: Strong expertise in both Relational and NoSQL databases, ensuring efficient data management.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Proven experience with AWS (or other cloud platforms) and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or Nomad.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: In-depth knowledge of Kafka and event-driven system design.
  • Scalability & Solution Design: Ability to architect highly scalable and resilient systems, ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Technical Leadership: Quick adaptability to new software, frameworks, and APIs, with the ability to evaluate, implement, and train team members on best practices.
  • Monitoring & Provisioning: Strong understanding of system monitoring, observability, and automated infrastructure provisioning.
  • Security & Testing Mindset: A keen focus on security best practices and comprehensive testing strategies to ensure software reliability.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: A problem-solving attitude with a proactive approach to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and articulate technical concepts with clarity.
