Senior Accountant

Reports to: Controller
Location: Remote
Role type: Individual contributor (no direct reports)

 

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant serves as the primary accounting owner for the company. This role supports an automation-driven finance organization that is currently undergoing a comprehensive rebuild of its A/R, A/P, and balance sheet management processes. The Senior Accountant ensures accuracy across all financial operations, maintains a healthy control environment, and partners with the Controller to further refine tools, workflows, and automation.

This role requires strong accounting fundamentals, confidence working independently, and the ability to problem solve within a fast moving SaaS environment. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where process improvement is valued, ambiguity is quickly clarified, and collaboration is essential.

 

Core Responsibilities

Month End Close

  • Own the entire month end close process from start to finish
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting each month
  • Identify issues early and implement corrective actions quickly
  • Help innovate new ways to reduce the month end close timeline down from 10 days to 7

Accounts Receivable

  • Manage the integrity of the invoice sync between Stripe and QuickBooks Online
  • Verify, post, and reconcile customer payments
  • Maintain an accurate and current A/R Aging schedule
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers with billing questions
  • Oversee dunning and collections workflows via HubSpot Support Tickets
  • Monitor billing trends, errors, and opportunities for automation improvements

Accounts Payable

  • Process vendor invoices and payments in Ramp
  • Code and sync credit card transactions to QuickBooks Online
  • Maintain clean and accurate A/P records that support timely reporting
  • Ensure internal controls are followed across all purchasing activity

Balance Sheet Management

  • Maintain detailed monthly balance sheet schedules including accruals, deferrals, prepaid amortization, and reserves
  • Reconcile every balance sheet account monthly with limited oversight
  • Provide variance analysis and explanations for period over period movements
  • Flag issues proactively and partner with the Controller to address them

Audit Support

  • Coordinate with auditors and provide testing documentation
  • Pull support from internal systems and upload to the audit sharefile
  • Assist with testing, walkthroughs, and general fieldwork

Tax and Business Operations

  • Own sales tax tool integration, periodic filings, and compliance 
  • Manage state business registrations, annual reports, and related tax remittances
  • Support external partners with any additional tax compliance needs

Financial Operations and Special Projects

  • Partner closely with the Controller to improve automation, workflow efficiency, and system integration
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancements to A/R, A/P, and balance sheet processes
  • Support ad hoc initiatives including cash forecasting, treasury management, and basic FP&A
  • Act as a resource for cross functional teams on finance related questions
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience in SaaS (preferred) or public accounting
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and full cycle accounting
  • Hands on experience with cloud-based financial tools including QuickBooks Online, Stripe, and Ramp
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage month end close
  • Advanced reconciliation and Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow through
  • Comfort working in a fast paced remote environment with ownership over critical processes
