The Audience Editor will be tasked with developing and executing strategies to help build Vox’s presence across key platforms. They are a journalist with strong editorial instincts and a pulse on what audiences want; they also appreciate a good story and care deeply about serving our audience. Our goal is to use platforms both to reach new audience members and to deepen our engagement with already loyal Vox fans. This person’s mission is to support those goals by highlighting our best work, engaging with our audience regularly, and ultimately helping to ensure that Vox becomes a part of their daily routine.
They will sit on the audience team in the newsroom and work closely with a wide range of people across the newsroom.
This role reports to the Associate Director of Audience.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Be the primary manager of Vox’s social media accounts across platforms, with particular emphasis on Instagram. You’ll be responsible for growing engagement and keeping Vox in the conversation, with a focusing on deepening loyalty.
- Build our presence on other platforms where we can engage existing active audiences, including Bluesky, Reddit, and Substack
- Act as an expert on social media, headlines, and SEO for the broader newsroom when needed. This includes workshopping headlines with editors and providing feedback
- Analyze what’s working and make adjustments to strategy based on what we’re seeing
- Ensure our highest priority stories and editorial initiatives reach their target audience, by developing distribution strategies and collaborating with internal marketing, communication, and events teams
- Develop a deep understanding of Vox’s editorial strategy and build relationships with editors, understanding each section’s unique priorities, challenges and needs
- Work with other audience team members on crowdsourcing audience questions and increasing number of stories coming directly from audience engagement
WHO YOU ARE
- Experience with social media and other content distribution platforms, including Instagram
- Experience with Reddit and Substack a plus but not required
- Experience with video editing also a plus but not required
- Experience with Canva or similar tools
- Strong writing skills; copywriting experience preferred
- Ability to think creatively and pitch and execute new audience engagement ideas
- Passion for engaging with audiences
- Understanding of Vox’s editorial mission

PAY TRANSPARENCY
The salary range listed below represents the minimum and maximum base pay for this position at the time of this posting. Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.

$79,000 - $85,000 USD
