Job Summary: 

This position requires continuous support for business development (capture and proposal activities) and support program execution activities where you will perform Business Development duties across programs and business pursuits by providing an in-depth understanding of disciplined engineering processes and propulsion subject matter area knowledge. This position is responsible for leading the capture process and leads the transition to proposal/program managers when requests for information (RFI) / requests for proposals (RFP) come in while ensuring the focus on the customer by understanding strategic environment, threats, problems, priorities, limitations, and requirements. Understanding how the customer perceives capability and capacity gaps. This role is a technical leadership role where you are expected to effectively work with and communicate with company executives, customers, project engineers, program managers, finance, contracts, Operations, HR, IT, and security.   

Responsibilities: 

Performance of business development tasking is inclusive of tasks identified below, with minimal supervision.

  • Identifies and develops new business opportunities.
  • Builds relationships with customers, suppliers, distributors, partners, and vendors.
  • Evaluates existing partnerships and sales efforts with an eye toward building on what works and changing what doesn’t.
  • Manages key client relationships and works to build new ones.
  • Expands the profile and reach of the company and its brands.
  • Leads sales, marketing, customer-service, and client relationship management teams.
  • Develops and strengthens internal and external relationships that will lead to increased lead generation and market share.
  • Builds cross-functional teams to guide and nourish sustainable, long-term growth.
  • Tracks emerging markets and trends.
  • Fosters and works to maintain an entrepreneurial growth culture throughout the company and across all teams and work functions.
  • Identifies and recommends new services.
  • Proposes and develops strategic partnerships.
  • Helps to shape the company’s long-term objectives and determine plans for how to meet them.
  • Researches and identifies new markets.
  • Provides advice on product development and distribution and promotion strategies.
  • Travels to vendor locations, distributions centers, and customer locations.
  • Fulfills requests for information (RFI) / requests for proposals (RFP) requests from potential partners and customers.
  • Helps direct development of customer-facing web platforms and digital experiences.
  • Travels up to 75% of the time to various customer
  • Other related job duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Directs the execution of the business development vision, strategy, plans, and processes to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives. Identifies and evaluates new markets, partners, channels, and customers.
  • Develops and uses contacts and relationships within the industry, business environment, and customer base to understand and respond to competition, pricing, and product demand changes.
  • Oversees the development of proposals and contracts for new business opportunities. Collaborates marketing, sales, and product development with other VTS stakeholders to support business development plans.
  • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
  • Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.

  • This job involves direct customer face-to-face contact to perform all business development functions including substantial outside travel.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of experience which includes 5 years of managing DOD propulsion and Aerospace related programs.
  • Experience briefing executive management and customers on program status, risks and future
  • Experience managing programs for the U.S. Government
  • Management of rocket propulsion defense systems
  • Experience with Aerospace / DoD Business Development processes, procedures and formal training.
  • Management of Missile Defense Agency programs with MAP/PMAP
  • Performing business development activities working directly with funding customer

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited university.

Preferred: Master’s degree in the field of Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited university.

Other:

  • Must have a current DoD Secret Clearance, Top Secret Clearance preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel 50 to 75% of the time as required to meet VTS business objectives.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship)
