Job Summary: 

Senior Business Development (BD) leader for the Voyager Defense Systems Propulsion business area who develops New Business Acquisition vision, strategies, and tactical plans, and then executes to drive bookings (sales), increase revenue, and position the business for robust growth in alignment with financial objectives. This person will identify and evaluate expansion of current and new markets, partners, channels, and customers. The role requires a strong technical background and Controllable Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion domain experience in order to develop customer trust and relationships,and effectively partner with the internal technical execution team.  The individual must be skilled at both the Strategic level and hands-on independent BD execution in an entrepreneurial environment which includes understanding strategic environment, threats, problems, priorities, limitations, and requirements as well as a deep understanding how the customer perceives capability and capacity gaps. This role is a highly visible senior leadership role reporting to the Defense Systems Senior Director of Business Development and supporting the Aero Business VP/GM and CTO.  The individual will be expected to effectively work with and communicate with company executives, customers, project engineers, program managers, finance, contracts, Operations, HR, IT, and security.  

Responsibilities: 

Performance of business development tasking includes and is not limited to tasks below:

  • Identifies and develops new business opportunities in alignment with Annual Operating Plan and Long-Range Strategic Plan objectives. Meet or exceed AOP Bookings (Sales)
  • Builds and manage relationships with customers, suppliers, distributors, partners, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Understand customer missions, requirements, and gaps, and partner with Technical team to apply or develop appropriate solutions.
  • Leads sales, marketing, customer-service, and client relationship effort related to assigned scope.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to guide sustainable, long-term growth.
  • Tracks emerging markets and trends; proposes and develops solutions including new offerings or strategic partnerships to address evolving needs.
  • Fosters an entrepreneurial growth culture throughout the company and across all teams and work functions.
  • Provides input to internal research, product development and distribution and promotion strategies.
  • Fulfills requests for information (RFI) / requests for proposals (RFP) requests from potential partners and customers, leads captures and proposals, and smoothly transitions new work to Program Management team.
  • Support and improve Capture and Bid and Proposal Process. Manage within B&P budget. Support ISR Business Area Pipeline generation and reporting.

  • Directs the execution of the business development vision, strategy, plans, and processes to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives. Identifies and evaluates new markets, partners, channels, and customers.
  • Develops and uses contacts and relationships within the industry, business environment, and customer base to understand and respond to competition, pricing, and product demand changes.
  • Oversees the development of proposals and contracts for new business opportunities. Collaborates marketing, sales, and product development with other Voyager stakeholders to support business development plans.
  • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
  • Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
  • This job requires an individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills (both spoken and written) to include communications with program teams, company management, business partners, and
  • This job involves direct customer face-to-face contact to perform all business development functions including substantial outside travel.

Experience:

Required:

  • 10+ years’ experience business development to the U.S. Government and Prime Contractor
  • 15+ years of involving solid rocket motors, controllable propulsion, additive metals manufacturing, composite filament winding manufacturing technical expertise (may be concurrent with marketing experience).
  • Experience briefing executive management and customers for proposal review and approval.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency programs and MAP/PMAP
  • Experience working with Corporate-Level Business Development activities, including high-level customer presentations, support of Congressional actions, and executive level task forces.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering, Science or Computer Science from an accredited university.

Preferred: Master’s degree in the field of Business Administration or Engineering from an accredited university.

Other:

  • Must have a current DoD Secret Clearance, Top Secret Clearance preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel 50 to 75% of the time as required to meet VTS business objectives.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship)
