Job Summary:
The Project Engineer V serves as the senior technical authority and integration lead for large-scale, high-risk defense and aerospace programs. This role is responsible for overall technical execution, cross-functional alignment, and ensuring delivery of integrated system solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule objectives. The individual partners closely with program management and customer leadership while guiding engineering teams through complex technical challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical execution and integration of complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programs
- Serve as the primary technical interface to customers, senior leadership, and external stakeholders
- Direct and oversee Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring alignment of technical scope, priorities, and resources
- Drive development and execution of Integrated Master Plans/Schedules (IMP/IMS) in coordination with program leadership
- Own technical risk management strategy, including identification, mitigation planning, and execution tracking
- Lead system-level trade studies, architecture decisions, and design integration across disciplines
- Provide technical oversight of subcontractors and suppliers, including requirements flow-down, performance tracking, and interface management
- Author, review, and approve key engineering artifacts (SOWs, ICDs, ECNs, test plans, and technical reports)
- Support and lead major program reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) and customer technical interchange meetings
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, CDRLs, and applicable standards
- Mentor junior engineers and project engineers; provide technical guidance and leadership across teams
- Support proposal development, including technical volume leadership and basis of estimate (BOE)
Required Qualifications
- S. citizenship required due to government program requirements
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance
- Proven ability to lead complex engineering programs across full lifecycle from concept development through qualification and delivery
- Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to influence across engineering, program management, and executive stakeholders
- Strong engineering judgment with a systems-level perspective and ownership mindset
- Highly effective in customer engagement, expectation management, and technical communication
- Driven leader with a focus on execution excellence, continuous improvement, and mission success
Experience
- 10–15 years of project engineering, systems engineering, or technical program leadership experience
- Significant experience in aerospace or defense programs, preferably supporting DoD and MDA efforts
- Demonstrated success leading large, complex programs or major subsystems through full lifecycle
- Strong experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), IMP/IMS, and Control Account Management (CAM)
- Deep understanding of systems engineering processes aligned with DoD acquisition frameworks
- Experience with system integration, verification/validation, and qualification of high-reliability systems
- Preferred experience with controllable solids and propulsion system integration
- Experience interfacing directly with customers and leading technical aspects of proposals
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM field from an accredited institution required
- Master’s degree preferred

- Proven ability to manage technical risk and resolve complex issues

$153,615 - $189,430 USD
Colorado pay range
$145,000 - $175,000 USD
