Voyager’s Advanced Technologies Group is defining the future of the company and critical space and defense markets. The Mechanical Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for the design, analysis, and qualification of complex electronics and avionics systems supporting these novel technology development efforts. The role emphasizes high-velocity design and technical leadership for in-space systems. The engineer provides technical direction and works closely with other engineering functions to ensure system architectures meet performance, safety, and mission assurance standards.
The position reports to the Vice President of Technology Development and is part of the Engineering department based in El Segundo, CA. This role can be hybrid.
In this role, the essential functions are:
- Directly designs enclosures of electronic assemblies (PCBA's), etc. or designs moderately complex mechanical/aerospace component or systems.
- Direct design and thermal, shock, and vibration analysis
- Possess proficient knowledge of drafting standards per ASME-Y14.5, methods of GD&T and documentation skills, and impact of component GD&T on system performance
- Understanding of machining and mechanical assembly as it impacts design.
- Some direct machining experience (lathe, mill).
- Create Mechanical BOM’s
- Write manufacturing instructions.
- Manage mechanical engineering tasks for multiple programs to completion.
- Write reports and presentations and contributing to proposals and design reviews
- Work with Subject Experts to complete complex designs for both digital and RF systems
- Work with vendors to source manufactured hardware

- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering mat’ls (Aluminums, Steels, PCB Mat’ls, adhesives, solders, etc.)
- Thermal, shock and vibrational analysis experience with electronic or similar assemblies.
- Strong background in the knowledge of GD&T.
- Familiarity with PCBA Layout
- Knowledge of space flight requirements, standards, and environments is required.
- Understanding of the manufacturing processes required for machining, solder assembly, adhesive attachment (e.g. epoxy, silicone RTV), PCB fabrication, surface protection(e.g., chemfilm, anodizing, conformal coat, etc.)
- Familiar with electronic and electrical components (PCB's, connectors, BGA's, SMT components)
- Experience in the definition, cost/labor estimation and scheduling of tasks required for program support.
- Good verbal and written skills for interfacing with customers and team members.
- Ability to create and present engineering power points internally and for customers.
- Ability to work effectively in a leadership or support role on a multi-disciplinary project team.
- Self-directive person with ability to handle a dynamic work environment.
The good faith base salary range for this role is $135,000 - $185,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
