The Program Manager IV for Defense & National Security is responsible for management of all phases of program execution. Development of all program management related documentation such as: monthly status reports, PDR/CDR matter, program planning documentation, program management related CDRLs and presentations of program materials to relatively large technical teams and management, subcontractors, and customers.
The position reports to the Director of Advanced Technology Programs and is part of the Science & Technologies department based in Reno, NV. This role is onsite or hybrid based in Reno, NV.
In this role, the essential functions are:
- Plans, directs, and monitors project(s) to ensure work scope, schedule, and budget are maintained. Responsible for the project level profit and loss.
- Defines, generates, and reviews project management related material.
- Ensures that all required resources such as engineering, manpower, production, and facilities are available for the program.
- Works closely with the assigned project staff to ensure adequate direction is provided regarding budgeting and execution of program.
- Works closely with the assigned project staff to ensure all program deliverables are met satisfactorily.
- Works closely with VTS management to ensure that all program risks and issues are identified early and proactively elevated and properly acted upon.
- Serves as primary customer contact for project information.
- Pursues follow-on and new business opportunities directly with customers.
- Ensure adherence to all internal Program Management processes.
- Participate in customer meetings, peer reviews, and problem-solving meetings.
- Input into creation of proposals for follow-on work.
- Travels up to 25% of the time to various customer locations.
- Other related job duties, as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- 15+ years of program management experience which includes 10 years managing DOD propulsion related programs.
- Prior responsibilities directly related to generating, managing, and owning Integrated Master Schedules, Integrated Master Plans, Earned Value Management.
- Direct experience in managing large Subcontracts.
- Experience managing programs for the U.S. Government Customers
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree with emphasis in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- Management of rocket propulsion defense system programs.
- Management of Missile Defense Agency programs with MAP/PMAP requirements.
- Experience briefing executive management and customers on program status, risks, and future plans
Skills:
- Ability to multi-task in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Possess excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on verbal and written communication.
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and completely.
- Overall knowledge of Microsoft Office suite to include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- Preferred experience in using Integrated Program Management Tools
- Preferred basic understanding in solid rocket motor design and operation
Other Requirements:
- Travel up to 25%, including the possibility of overnights within the continental US
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship)
- Must have a current DoD Secret Clearance
The good faith base salary range for this role is $128,600–$245,900 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
