The Network Engineer is responsible for the hands-on engineering, implementation, operation, and support of Voyager's enterprise network infrastructure across corporate offices, engineering environments, manufacturing facilities, secure environments, newly acquired companies, and mission-support locations.

Reporting to the Director of Networking, this role delivers secure, resilient, and supportable network solutions from approved designs through deployment, testing, documentation, and operational handoff. The Network Engineer works closely with the Network Architect, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, IT Operations, vendors, carriers, and site teams to modernize and operate Voyager's distributed aerospace, defense, and space technology environments. This role is based out of Washington D.C.

In this role, the essential functions are:

  • Network Engineering and Implementation

    • Implement, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, internet edge, VPN, remote-access, routing, switching, firewall, and network-service infrastructure.
    • Translate approved network designs and requirements into detailed configurations, implementation plans, test procedures, rollback plans, and as-built documentation.
    • Support network builds, site activations, office expansions, technology refreshes, migrations, acquisition integrations, and other infrastructure projects.
    • Coordinate hardware staging, rack and stack, circuit turn-up, carrier connectivity, configuration deployment, cutovers, and post-implementation validation.
    • Validate routing, redundancy, failover, segmentation, security policy enforcement, application connectivity, and performance after changes or deployments.

    Operations and Reliability

    • Monitor network health, availability, capacity, throughput, and performance; identify trends, bottlenecks, and risks before they affect users or mission operations.
    • Troubleshoot complex connectivity, latency, routing, wireless, firewall, and application-access issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement durable corrective actions.
    • Maintain network configurations, firmware, patches, backups, and lifecycle records in accordance with approved standards and change-management practices.
    • Participate in planned maintenance and provide on-call support for critical network incidents as required.
    • Support disaster-recovery, business-continuity, and failover testing for network infrastructure and critical services.

    Security, Compliance, and Documentation

    • Partner with Cybersecurity to implement and maintain network segmentation, firewall policies, secure remote access, logging, access controls, and least-privilege principles.
    • Implement network controls that support CMMC, CUI, ITAR/EAR, government, and other applicable contractual or regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain accurate logical and physical network diagrams, IP addressing and VLAN/VRF records, circuit inventories, device configurations, implementation records, and support documentation.
    • Identify single points of failure, undocumented infrastructure, configuration drift, capacity constraints, security concerns, and lifecycle risks; escalate findings with practical remediation recommendations.

    Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

    • Work with the Network Architect to implement enterprise architecture, reference designs, standards, and repeatable engineering patterns while providing field feedback that improves operational supportability.
    • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cloud, IT Operations, application teams, and business stakeholders to resolve network dependencies and deliver end-to-end solutions.
    • Work with vendors, managed service providers, telecommunications carriers, and technology partners to provision, implement, troubleshoot, and support network services.
    • Develop and maintain configuration templates, automation, scripts, and repeatable deployment methods that improve consistency, speed, and reliability.
    • Serve as an escalation resource for network incidents and provide technical guidance to IT personnel as needed.
