Join Vultr

Vultr’s Cloud Networking team builds the network features and automation that power our global cloud platform — VPC, routing, NAT, internet gateways, LB/ingress, overlay/underlay integrations, network APIs, and the dataplane abstractions that our customers rely on. This team sits at the intersection of network engineering, software development, and platform automation. This role requires both deep technical capability and strong leadership. You will routinely dive into EVPN-VXLAN behavior, VPC/NAT/GW design, API integrations, controller implementations, and fabric-level routing workflows while also coaching engineers, running design reviews, shaping architecture, and managing the team's growth. You’ll be the type of manager who can reason about packet flows in the morning and mentor an engineer on career progression in the afternoon. We’re looking for a Manager, Cloud Networking to lead the engineers building the systems that define how customers connect workloads, how packets flow across our EVPN fabrics, and how next-generation features integrate into our global architecture. This team owns the control-plane and data-plane logic for cloud networking, from the ToR to the API. You’ll guide a highly technical group that ships production features, maintains global-scale networking automation, and collaborates with nearly every engineering group at Vultr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing Cloud Networking engineering team, providing regular coaching, setting clear expectations, and helping engineers reach the next stage of their careers.
  • Create a healthy engineering culture centered on ownership, curiosity, collaboration, and long-term craftsmanship in networking software.
  • Drive strong engineering fundamentals - testing, validation, reproducibility, rollback safety, change control, observability, and operational readiness
  • Own the Cloud Networking roadmap, including VPC, routing, NAT/IGW, firewall/security groups, and customer-facing networking features.
  • Manage and mentor a team of network-minded software engineers building automation, controllers, and dataplane implementations for scale.
  • Drive development of networking APIs and control-plane logic, ensuring correctness, scalability, and straightforward integration into Vultr’s platform and orchestration layers.
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of EVPN-VXLAN fabrics, overlay construction, VRF segmentation, route distribution, and dataplane policy enforcement.
  • Own the automation stack for network provisioning and lifecycle management - Network device configuration generation, device onboarding flows, controller logic, and intent application.
  • Partner with Platform Engineering, Orchestration, Compute, and GPU/AI teams to integrate networking behavior into provisioning workflows and cluster operations.
  • Define the model and schema for new network constructs (e.g., VPC features, routing modes, Gateway/NAT capabilities, private connectivity, cross-region constructs).
  • Ensure quality and consistency across network software — testing, validation, rollbacks, canaries, structured CI/CD, reproducibility, auditability.
  • Work with Architecture to align feature design with long-term fabric strategy (EVPN, VTEP lifecycle, multi-tenant segmentation, QoS, RDMA coexistence).
  • Coordinate with NetDevOps to build operational tooling, validate configurations, improve telemetry, and close automation gaps.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing and growing engineering teams - hiring talent, fostering development, and building a safe but high-performing environment for the team.
  • Deep experience with modern data center + cloud networking: EVPN-VXLAN, L3 multi-tenancy, VRFs, routing policy, NAT, load balancing, firewalling.
  • Experience building or leading networking software - Python, Go, or Rust controllers, orchestration flows, gRPC/REST APIs, daemons integrating with Linux datapath or hardware switches.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Linux networking: netlink, iptables/nftables, namespaces, routing stacks, kernel dataplane behavior.
  • Working familiarity with Junos EVO, Cumulus Linux, SONiC, or similar open-networking systems.

Compensation

$175,000 - $195,000

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
