Lead Payroll Specialist - Chattanooga, TN
SUMMARY
Payroll Lead serves as the subject matter expert for payroll operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, & timely processing across all pay cycles. This role acts as the primary point of contact for complex payroll matters, providing guidance, oversight, & resolution across all payroll functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer full-cycle payroll operations within Win Team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all payroll cycles.
• Support the training and development of Payroll Specialist; provide guidance on payroll procedures, systems, and best practices.
• Compile and review payroll data, including garnishments, vacation time, 401(k), hours worked, taxes, insurance, H&W, and pension from time sheets and other records.
• Oversee and optimize payroll workflows to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all transactions, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and deductions.
• Perform payroll reconciliations, validate to ensure data integrity and minimize discrepancies.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies; communicating findings and resolutions clearly and promptly to stakeholders.
• Process and record payroll-related tax adjustments impacting employee wages.
• Prepare and analyze periodic payroll reports, including earnings, taxes, and deductions.
• Generate weekly, monthly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management;
• Maintain accurate records of leave pay and non-taxable wages.
• Ensure accurate and timely distribution of employee payments, including paychecks and direct deposits.
• Lead year-end payroll activities, including preparation and distribution of W-2s, W-2c corrections, and other required tax documentation in compliance with regulatory deadlines.
• Provide cross-functional support and perform additional administrative duties to ensure efficient financial and payroll operations

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating policies and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and percentages.
- Ability to apply concepts as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts with basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with accuracy.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Contact Management systems; Database software; Human Resources Systems; Internet programs; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Current/valid state driver’s license

Ability to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
