Staff Manufacturing Engineer

At Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics, we're building the infrastructure that will power the next generation of retail experiences. We're the team behind Alphabot®, a new technology that's changing the way America shops. Our automated pickup and delivery systems use a combination of robotics and software to efficiently handle large volumes of online orders, streamlining operations for managers and enhancing the customer experience. We're passionate about robotics, retail, and creating solutions that impact millions of customers daily.

The Staff Manufacturing Engineer plays a pivotal role in representing our Manufacturing Operations during the New Product Development Process. This position is paramount for driving technical conversations, spearheading the manufacturing process development, ensuring top-notch quality performance, and formulating test strategies across our Supply Chain. Being a key member of Walmart’s automation venture, this role demands a duality of approach – balancing both strategic visions and hands-on execution, while setting the stage for exponential growth.

What you’ll work on:

  • Deliver mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing engineering solutions, including methods, processes, designs, and capital requirements, to meet both new product introduction and ongoing production demands.
  • Work across various functions to extend mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing engineering expertise to both internal teams and external partners. This includes ensuring the development of product specifications, promoting DFx best practices, devising testing methods, and integrating novel manufacturing/testing practices.
  • Forge strong technical alliances with pivotal contract manufacturers and strategic suppliers. Lead in the selection process and periodic audits of these entities.
  • Address supplier issues related to quality and yield, guiding the corrective action resolution discussions.
  • Periodically present departmental metrics, such as quality ratings, yield rates, productivity, and BOM maturity.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce costs in collaboration with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance teams.
  • Assess the Manufacturing Engineering department's needs and draft Standard Operating Procedures to drive Walmart’s growth ambitions.
  • Keep tabs on staffing needs, assess individual performances, and foster the professional development of the Manufacturing Engineering team.
  • Guide and manage the efforts of manufacturing engineers.
  • The ability to travel both domestically and internationally, estimated at around 20%.

What we’re looking for:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years' extensive experience in electrical and or mechanical manufacturing engineering, especially with electromechanical commodities.
  • Demonstrable prowess as a hands-on Electrical or Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering leader, adept at oscillating between strategy and execution.
  • Proven leadership abilities and exceptional communication skills in a dynamic, high-paced setting.
  • Solid analytical skills with a penchant for data-driven decision-making, complemented by a high-quality execution track record.
  • Expertise in electrical and/or mechanical assemblies, automation, design reviews, DFx analysis for electrical components, PFMEA, GD&T, and SPC.
  • Proficiency in PLM systems and familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Applied experience with Lean/6 Sigma or analogous continuous improvement methodologies in a structured electrical and/or mechanical manufacturing context.
  • Resilience in maintaining momentum amid changes, with ability for instituting standard operations in the face of robust growth.
  • A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.

We offer great benefits for a happier mind, body, and wallet:

  • Competitive pay and performance-based bonus awards
  • Competitive 401(k) matching program, stock purchase plans, and equity opportunities
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and insurance plans with options for dependent coverage
  • Unlimited PTO for salaried employees, covering vacation, holidays, and personal days
  • Up to 12 weeks of fully paid maternity/paternity leave
  • Special Walmart discounts for in-store and online purchases
  • Complimentary daily lunches, beverages, and snacks
  • Other benefits include short-term and long-term disability, Military Leave Pay, adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, and more
