Automation & Field Quality Engineer

We're seeking an Automation Engineer for Field Quality to perform critical inspections, repairs, and quality control activities at various sites across the continental US. This role combines technical aptitude with hands-on problem-solving, requiring travel and the ability to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts. The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanical or electrical engineering, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

What you’ll work on:

  • Perform quality inspections to support site installation, provisioning, and commissioning activities of our automated robotic fulfillment system.
  • Perform quality inspections at live sites. This will require working during the maintenance window, sometimes between 1:00 am-3:00 am.
  • Perform minor repairs on Structure components.
  • Achieve and maintain subject matter expertise in quality standards and procedures applicable to site deployment activities.
  • Collect, record, and present data associated with performance metrics related to the execution of field quality activities and goals.
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis meetings and provide necessary data from the field.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve any/all issues impacting Live sites and sites under installation, provisioning, and commissioning as directed by other quality engineers and the Field Quality Lead.
  • Understand test requirements and execute test plans at live sites.
  • Offer hands-on training, guidance, and support for installation work instructions, field service bulletins, and quality inspections.

Travel Requirements:
Traveling is necessary to perform one or more essential functions of this position. Travel may be up to 50-75% as needed to multiple sites within the continental U.S. to effectively support field quality activities.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field AND 1-3 years of experience in technology, industrial automation/construction, or related area.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, familiarity with 8D or similar structured problem-solving tools
  • Strong mechanical acumen, able to follow technical instructions and assemble or test complex assemblies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively communicate at all levels (with internal and external customers, engineers, and technicians) in written, verbal & presentation formats.
  • Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary group of professionals and partnering on issues effectively across all levels.
  • Basic metrology knowledge, including using calipers, tape measures, parallel bars, etc. Hands-on with electrical test tools such as multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes is highly desirable but not required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, and be qualified to obtain a credit card for travel-related expenses
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements applicable to Working at Heights, Electrical Safety, Arc Flash Hazards, Confined Space Safety, Construction Safety, and incident response & documentation
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code is highly desirable but not required. IPC Certification is a bonus.
