Senior Mechanical Engineer - Bot Team

We're hiring a proactive Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to our automated pickup and delivery system. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a critical role in developing the only moving part of our Alphabot system - the robots themselves. The ideal candidate should be ready to tackle diverse challenges as they arise. You will be part of an innovative team of engineers focused on developing solutions changing the retail industry.

What you’ll work on:

  • Collaborate with and direct interdisciplinary teams including electrical, systems, and safety to assist in the definition of mechanical design requirements for the bots in our system.
  • Be responsible for or assist with the successful management of engineering programs as they relate to cost, quality, safety, timing, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop component-level design requirements through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Conduct and participate in design meetings/reviews, debugging, power-up, and bot validation and testing with the appropriate functional teams.
  • Create and manage highly detailed and functional 3D models and detailed drawings.
  • Optimize designs via analytical, numerical, and/or empirical assessments.
  • Be responsible for the creation, development, and release of component and system specifications and documentation, including ECO creation for releasing all product documentation to the PLM system.
  • Be responsible for the creation of component design verification plans and test methods, as well as actual testing.
  • Interface with manufacturing group and suppliers to ensure feasibility and manufacturability of all designs.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in electro-mechanical systems, industrial automation, or robotics
  • Knowledge of industrial automation components such as pneumatics, sensors, motors & drives, robots, power trains, and general machine design
  • Knowledge of technical drawing preparation, various manufacturing techniques, knowledge of materials, and general fabrication techniques.
  • Familiarity with the design for any or all of the following production processes: machining, additive manufacturing, injection molding (plastics), extrusion (plastic or aluminum), metal stamping, castings, weldments, etc.
  • Experience working and leading in a matrixed, cross-functional team environment
  • Knowledge and/or experience in FEA (Finite Element Analysis), primarily with stress analysis.
  • Detailed working knowledge of ASME Y14.5, and working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience providing mentorship & guidance for junior-level engineers
  • B.S or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related, or equivalent experience and exceptional ability. A Robotics minor/major is a plus.
