Director of Operations

Salt Lake City, Utah

Director of Operations

About WAYB

WAYB is a B Corp-certified consumer brand best known for the WAYB Pico, an ultra-lightweight portable car seat trusted by families worldwide. We are a lean, fast-moving team building products that are thoughtfully designed, responsibly made, and built to last.

Role Summary

We are hiring a Director of Operations to join our leadership team in Salt Lake City. This is a senior in-person role that reports directly to the CEO.

You will own and build the operational backbone of WAYB — covering logistics, 3PL, warehouse, systems, legal, and compliance. You will work closely with every team in the company, making sure operational infrastructure supports and enables the broader business to move fast and perform well.

We need someone who can come in, get their hands around the full operation, and build the right systems and structure for where we are going.

What You Will Own

Logistics & Supply Chain

  • Own all logistics operations — 3PL relationships, inbound/outbound coordination, and fulfillment performance
  • Evaluate and optimize the current 3PL setup; make recommendations on structure, partners, and contracts
  • Manage vendor relationships with clear KPIs and accountability
  • Oversee import/export operations and ensure smooth international and domestic shipping

Warehouse & Inventory

  • Oversee warehouse operations and ensure inventory accuracy and visibility at all times
  • Build systems and processes that give leadership real-time insight into stock levels and movement
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks that impact fulfillment speed or cost

Legal & Compliance

  • Own hands-on operational compliance across product safety certifications, import/export regulations, IP, and applicable regulatory obligations — this is not a legal team function; it is direct ownership with outside counsel in a supporting role
  • Coordinate with outside legal counsel on operational, vendor, and contractual matters
  • Maintain WAYB's B Corp certification standards operationally
  • Ensure all business operations are properly documented and compliant

Systems & Technology Operations

  • Own all operational systems — ensure tools and platforms are properly set up, configured, and integrated
  • Ensure key systems (NetSuite, Celigo, WMS, and logistics platforms) are connected and being used effectively
  • Identify gaps in the current tech stack and make recommendations for improvements or replacements
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure operational systems support the needs of every team

Office Operations

  • Manage current office operations while leading the search for and transition to a new SLC office space
  • Set up and maintain office infrastructure, facilities, and vendor relationships
  • Own expense policy documentation, communication, and enforcement
  • Ensure the office — current and future — runs efficiently and reflects the standards of the brand

Budget & Financial Oversight

  • Own the operations budget — build and manage it with visibility and accountability across logistics, warehouse, systems, and office spend
  • Identify cost reduction and efficiency opportunities and bring data-backed recommendations to leadership

Who You Are

  • You have built and scaled operations across both domestic and international environments — you understand the complexity of global supply chains, cross-border compliance, and multi-market logistics firsthand.
  • You are equally comfortable in a lean startup and a scaled organization. You have operated at different companies of sizes and know how to adapt your approach to what the moment requires.
  • You are hands-on by nature. You do not just direct — you roll up your sleeves, get into the details, and do what it takes to move things forward.
  • You wear many hats without losing focus. In a small team, the job is rarely just the job description, and you thrive in that environment.
  • You are a builder first. You are energized by creating structure where there is none and building systems that last beyond you.
  • You are a strong collaborator. You listen to what other teams need and find ways to make operations work for everyone — not just your function.
  • You are calm and clear under pressure. When things go wrong — and in operations they will — you focus on the solution and bring the team with you.
  • You take full ownership. You hold yourself to a high standard and treat the business as if it were your own.

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of operations experience — physical product, consumer goods, or supply chain background strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience across both domestic and international operations — logistics, compliance, import/export, and vendor management across markets
  • Background spanning different company sizes — from lean, early-stage teams to larger scaled organizations
  • Broad operational coverage across multiple functions: logistics, warehouse, systems, legal/compliance, and office operations
  • Hands-on experience managing 3PL partnerships and logistics operations end to end
  • Familiarity with operational systems and how they connect — hands-on experience with tools like NetSuite, Celigo, WMS platforms, and logistics integrations
  • Understanding of legal and compliance requirements in a physical product business — product safety, regulatory, import/export
  • Experience owning and managing an operations budget — comfortable building budgets, tracking spend, and presenting financials to leadership
  • Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, or equivalent process improvement methodology is a strong plus
  • SLC-based and available in person — this is non-negotiable
  • Clear, direct communicator — can synthesize complexity into straightforward recommendations and decisions

What Success Looks Like

30 days:

You have a clear picture of every operational function — how things are set up, what is working, and where the gaps are. You have assessed the current office setup and begun evaluating options for a new SLC office space.

90 days:

Key operational priorities are identified and execution has begun. You have a plan, the team knows it, and the office search is actively in progress with shortlisted options.

6 months:

The operational foundation is stronger — systems are cleaner, accountability is clearer, and the business is running more efficiently. The new office space is selected and transition planning is underway.

6–9 months:

WAYB is operating out of its new SLC office. The space reflects where the company is going, and the transition was executed smoothly.

WAYB is a B Corp-certified company committed to people, planet, and perfor
