Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!

The role

As a Fullstack Software Engineer on the Onboard Experience team, you’ll help shape how people interact with our autonomous vehicles - from the software that our vehicle operators use daily to the experiences that demo guests encounter firsthand. You’ll be responsible for end-to-end systems that bridge the gap between vehicle hardware, backend services, and intuitive user interfaces.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll own systems across the stack, contribute to design and implementation decisions, and deliver reliable and scalable software that powers real-world autonomous driving operations. You’ll work closely with vehicle operators, backend and frontend engineers, and cross-functional partners to continuously evolve our in-vehicle software.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own system design and delivery: Design, implement, and maintain critical fullstack systems for the onboard experience, making sound trade-offs between performance, maintainability, and speed of delivery.
  • Develop robust frontend and backend features: Build user interfaces in React/TypeScript and backend services in Rust that enhance usability, and operational insight.
  • Ensure reliability and observability: Establish metrics, logging, and testing practices that ensure your systems meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work with engineers and designers to translate user and operational needs into elegant technical solutions.
  • Contribute to technical excellence: Uphold high standards for code quality, architecture, and documentation, and contribute to improving engineering practices within the team.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Fullstack Software Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • Frontend Development: Strong understanding of modern browser APIs, familiarity with frameworks such as React or Angular, and TypeScript.
  • Backend Development: Comfortable working in Linux environments, proficient in Rust or C++.
  • System ownership: Comfortable designing and maintaining systems end-to-end, including architecture, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to deliver pragmatic, high-quality solutions under evolving requirements, balancing short-term needs and long-term sustainability.
  • Collaboration: Skilled at working closely with cross-functional partners and communicating technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • User-centric mindset: A focus on building products that deliver real impact for users in real-world environments.

Desirable

  • Experience with real-time or robotic systems: Familiarity with embedded systems, or in-vehicle compute environments.
  • Typed API development: Experience designing or evolving strongly typed schemas (e.g., gRPC, protobuf).
  • Frontend performance expertise: Deep understanding of data-intensive UI design and optimization.
  • Automotive or AI interest: Enthusiasm for robotics, autonomous systems, or mobility innovation.
  • Educational background: A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London.  At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.   We operate core working hours so you can determine the schedule that works best for you and your team.

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.
