AI Research Scientist
Why Weave Exists
At Weave, our mission is to evolve how therapeutic knowledge is captured, transformed, and communicated throughout drug development. We do this by equipping human experts with AI instruments to enable drugs to be brought to patients as rapidly, safely, and inexpensively as possible.
The Weave Platform streamlines regulatory workflows from start to finish by intelligently, creatively, and effectively infusing every step with AI. Together with our customers, Weave is designing and building the AI workbench for the entire therapeutic lifecycle.
The Role & Your Mission
We’re seeking an AI Research Scientist to join our Weave Research team in the Bay Area, reporting directly to the Chief AI Officer. This team fuels Weave’s scientific and technical edge—translating cutting-edge AI ideas into measurable business outcomes that strengthen trust, differentiation, and operational efficiency. Your mission is to turn research into a real advantage—for our customers, our platform, and our people. In this role, you will:
- Build trust equity with stakeholders and customers by rigorously benchmarking algorithms, quantifying reliability, and demonstrating and publishing transparent scientific validation of AI-powered workflows.
- Prototype transformative solutions in close collaboration with customers—solving unsolved challenges in drug regulatory automation space with pragmatic, high-impact AI approaches.
- Boost internal velocity and efficiency by building AI-powered tools that cut cognitive and operational load for Weave’s product, engineering, and commercial teams.
You’ll thrive here if you find energy in applying first-principles science to real-world constraints—balancing rigor with delivery, and pioneering with purpose.
What You'll Own
- Invent & Prototype: Turn whiteboard concepts into controlled experiments and functional demos.
- Push LLM Frontiers: Combine language models with retrieval, symbolic reasoning, and traditional ML; optimize for accuracy, latency, reliability, and cost.
- Measure Ruthlessly: Define crisp hypotheses, choose fit-for-purpose metrics (including human-in-the-loop), and iterate through statistically sound studies.
- Publish: Write top-tier papers, release evaluation suites, and present your work at NeurIPS, ACL, ICML, EMNLP—or local meet-ups if that’s your style.
What You’ll Bring
- PhD or equivalent depth in Machine Learning, Physics, Math, Engineering, Computational Linguistics, or related field.
- LLM mastery—experience fine-tuning, prompt-engineering, and augmenting models with retrieval or tool use.
- Experimental rigor—strong in benchmarking, statistical analysis, and communicating complex results clearly.
- Familiarity with ML development toolkit—Python, PyTorch/JAX, Git, and familiarity with large codebases. Bonus: database fluency (Neo4j, Postgres, MongoDB).
- Storytelling and communication skills—able to translate research insights into product implications and explain technical subtleties to diverse audiences.
