This role is onsite 5 days a week in Fremont, CA
About the Role:
The Category Buyer for the Vietnamese Market is responsible for executing merchandising strategies, sourcing the right products, and developing targeted assortments to drive growth, maximize profitability, and elevate category performance. This role requires strong market analysis, vendor negotiation, and product sourcing capabilities, while working cross-functionally to meet business objectives and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Responsibilities:
- Source and onboard the right products and suppliers to support assortment expansion and market development.
- Assess the current assortment to identify product gaps and category growth opportunities.
- Manage vendors, including cost control and price negotiations, product quality and customer service feedback, payment terms, and fulfillment performance.
- Optimize vendor assortments and collaborate on promotional planning to drive performance.
- Determine the right price points and promotional strategies to increase market share and customer penetration.
- Conduct market research and monitor food trends to uncover new assortment opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or MBA or advanced degree
- 1+ year of experience in Business, Supply Chain or a related field
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills to drive pricing and assortment decisions
- Strong potential in vendor management and negotiation, and buying/ sourcing – While direct experience may be limited
- Ability to identify growth opportunities through market research and competitive benchmarking
- Clear and structured communication skills with cross-functional collaboration (e.g., Marketing, Ops, Accounting)
- Proactive mindset with a sense of ownership and accountability
- Understanding of Vietnamese consumer behavior and cultural food preferences
- Fluency in Vietnamese for effective vendor communication
Preferred skills:
- Experience in buying, sourcing, merchandising, or category management roles
- Background in high-growth startups or fast-paced retail/e-commerce companies
- Involvement in supplier negotiations, product lifecycle planning, and promotional strategy
- Familiarity with merchandising tools, procurement systems, ERP platforms, or similar tools
- Experience in Asian or ethnic grocery retail or e-commerce environments

Compensation Range
- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $71,000 - $87,500
- This role may be eligible to discretionary bonus, incentives and benefits
- Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location
