Medical Director II

Fresno, CA, USA

WelbeHealth PACE (All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) provides seniors with the opportunity to continue living in their homes and in their communities. We employ a collaborative interdisciplinary team (IDT) approach to evaluate and guide participant care. Our innovative and comprehensive range of medical services is what ignites our passion to treat the whole person rather than the symptoms.

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director II will be at the center of our IDT. The Medical Director II oversees all medical care provided to WelbeHealth participants and is accountable for the development, maintenance, and oversight of the Quality Improvement (QI) program and all medical policies, procedures, standards, and protocols. The Medical Director supervises PACE Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Community-Based PACE Physicians and other medical staff and contractors.

This role is different because Medical Directors at WelbeHealth:

  • Lead with impact in value-based care - PACE is an ideal job for a clinician, as it allows you to spend ample time engaging with and truly caring for participants without the mis-aligned incentives of fee-for-service

We care about our team members. That’s why we offer:

  • Competitive compensation with quarterly bonus
  • Generous time off - weekends off, 17 days PTO, 6 sick days, and 12 paid holidays
  • Relocation assistance available
  • CME reimbursement and malpractice/tail coverage
  • Growth opportunities to become a medical director
  • 401K savings + match
  • Medical insurance coverage (Medical, Dental, Vision)
  • Regular hours of 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, including home visits
  • Rotating on-call schedule - a few nights or weekends per month

On the day-to-day, you will:

  • Assume accountability for the medical care of WelbeHealth participants, overseeing the medical service team to promote quality and outcome goals
  • Support the development of innovative care pathways for complex conditions to enhance quality of life for participants and improve value for WelbeHealth
  • Monitor and lead WelbeHealth clinic operations to assure integration of medical services with other participant care services
  • Participate in the WelbeHealth executive management team to provide planning, budgeting, and oversight leadership
  • Provide oversight to Community-Based Physicians, ensuring compliance with PACE regulations and WelbeHealth policies, procedures, and QI requirements
  • Develop and implement clinic staffing and 24-hour on-call schedule
  • Monitor outcome measurements to ensure efficient utilization of all health care services including hospital inpatient and ER utilization, nursing facility utilization, pharmaceuticals, medication management, and specialist referrals

Job requirements include:

  • Successful completion of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • Board certification – internal medicine, family practice, or emergency medicine; geriatrics preferred
  • Active State Physician License without restrictions, as well as state CDS certification and DEA registration
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members
  • Must be willing and able to participate in rotating night and weekend call
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 180 days of hire and maintain certification thereafter; CPR and First Aid certification upon hire preferred

We are seeking Medical Directors that ideally have current knowledge of chronic care/geriatric issues and best practices (must be currently enrolled or eligible for enrollment to provide services to Medicare and Medi-Cal participants). If you’re ready to join a holistic care team that values both its participants and providers, we’d love to hear from you!

Compensation consists of base salary plus bonus. WelbeHealth offers a competitive total rewards package that includes a 401(k) match, comprehensive healthcare coverage, and a broad range of additional benefits. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and relevant qualifications.
