Position Title: Accountant
Reporting To: Controller
Location: Chapel Hill, NC
Compensation: $50,000-$60,000, depending on qualifications, plus bonus potential and benefits
Position Summary: The Accountant will be a vital contributor to Well’s Finance team as the company continues to grow and scale its business. The Accountant's key responsibilities will include maintaining Well’s financial records and reports, assisting with Well’s close processes, managing Well’s accounts receivable and accounts payable, and supporting Well’s annual financial audit. The Accountant will also assist the CFO and Controller on various strategic finance projects and respond to information requests by management and Well’s auditors as needed. The ability to accurately maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is a critical skill set for this role. Additionally, the Accountant should have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. As part of an early-stage, high growth business, the Accountant will also have the opportunity to be a hands-on contributor to support multiple areas of Well, including finance, business planning and budgeting, fundraising, human resources, and administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assisting with monthly close processes
- Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including cash disbursement accounts, payroll accounts, customer accounts, and other financial accounts
- Ensuring Well’s financial statements comply with with GAAP
- Verifying and/or completing payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
- Maintaining documentation for accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury
- Supporting the filing of tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies by sharing data with tax professionals
- Responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with Well’s annual financial audit
- Supporting implementation and maintenance of a robust set of financial management/admin systems and processes
- Assisting the CFO and Controller as needed
- Meeting processing and reporting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of accounting experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good problem-solving and time management skills
- Knowledge of GAAP
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Technology savvy with experience working in various financial software applications
- Minimum of an Associates in accounting or finance
- Certifications are encouraged, but not required. We can provide the supervision requirement for CPA, etc.
