Caregiver - Herndon, VA

A welcoming family in Herndon, VA 20171 is seeking an attentive, patient senior companion/caregiver to care for an 85-year-old woman living with dementia. While she is physically healthy and mobile, she requires engaging interaction, gentle support with hygiene, and attentive supervision to ensure her overall safety and well-being at home.

Schedule:

• Tuesdays and Wednesdays (flexible hours between 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
• Approximately 14 hours per week, with potential for additional hours if interested

Family Specifications:

• Care recipient is an 85-year-old female who is physically well and ambulatory, but experiences memory loss, isolation, and cognitive decline
• Values a caregiver who brings an assertive yet warm, gentle, and respectful approach to daily support

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct companionship, active conversation, and cognitive engagement to prevent isolation
• Offer assertive, respectful guidance and assistance with personal hygiene, including help with showering once per week
• Provide medication reminders
• Prepare or heat up simple, healthy meals and ensure proper eating habits
• Provide attentive safety monitoring within the home
• Encourage light physical activity, such as accompanied walks inside the building or outside around the complex

Requirements:

• Proven experience working with seniors living with dementia and managing challenging behaviors
• Ability to offer firm, structured, and respectful care while maintaining a warm demeanor
• Preferred: Knowledge or fluency in Chinese (Traditional / Cantonese / Hong Kong S.A.R. dialect); client also speaks English

Compensation:

• $23 to $25 per hour
