Position Overview
This student internship offers an immersive experience in oncology clinical trials, working directly with our Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) and under the supervision of a registered nurse. The Clinical Research Student Intern will support comprehensive care efforts for patients on clinical trials while gaining foundational oncology knowledge and practical research coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete required clinical trials training within four weeks of hire and participate in ongoing education
- Assist CRCs in screening patients for clinical trial eligibility through detailed chart reviews
- Learn and support the informed consent process
- Gain understanding of protocol therapies, patient education strategies, and documentation
- Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions about ethical considerations and regulatory compliance
- Interface with various departments including Nursing, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Laboratory
- Support skill-appropriate clinical tasks such as monitoring vitals, assisting with EKGs, and venipuncture under supervision
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and respect for patient confidentiality
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Required: Currently enrolled in a College of Nursing program and have completed the first year of coursework
Skills & Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email communication
- Basic math skills, including algebra and geometry
- Ability to draw valid conclusions from data and research findings
