Position Overview
The Oncology Nurse Navigator Manager is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and assignment of patient care for an assigned team of Registered Nurses, LPNs and assistants. This includes assessment of referrals, patient case management, maintenance of standards of practice, patient/staff assignments, staff developments, quality assessment and improvement and communication with all members of the interdisciplinary team, in accordance with the policies and standards of WCC, Medicare, and accrediting organizations. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the Mission, Vision and Values.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs and coordinates all clinical activities and functions to meet the company's goals and objectives
- Ensures that staff assignments are carried out according to the Plan of Care, plans for appropriate numbers and levels of staff, promotes and evaluates quality of care and cost effectiveness, ensures efficient distribution of services, ensures patient documentation is complete and timely, and participates in policy and program development
- Along with Nursing Director, hires, develops, ensures and retains a competent, productive and quality conscious staff
- Develops and implements processes through orientation, training and education to ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, improved and demonstrated throughout their employment
- Serves as initial contact to resolve patient concerns as well as staff performance issues
- Provides first line feedback to staff on performance
- Assists the Director in performance evaluation of staff by providing feedback and verifying completion of required competencies
- Plans for and utilizes fiscal and human resources
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency
- Demonstrates leadership and promotes professional practice of members of nursing care team
- Ensures that staff maintains compliance with federal, state, local, system, and regulatory standards, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Performs all duties of the nurse navigator role for direct patient care as required
- Practices within scope of nursing practice and clinical training
- Assists the Director with payroll, timekeeping, and approvals for time off for the staff
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Required:
- Graduate of a nursing program
- Must have at least eight (8) years experience as a Registered Nurse
- At least five (5) years of oncology outpatient experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s in nursing
- Two years experience in a lead or supervisory position
Credential/Licensure
Required:
- Possession of a current license to practice in the state of Tennessee as an RN
- All new hires and transfers are required to have BLS certification through the American Heart Association
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of quality improvement activities, as might be acquired through experience or training
- Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as patient records and business plans
- Ability to lead and motivate individuals and an interdisciplinary team toward the accomplishment of organizational goals
- Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of employees, physicians, patients and families
- Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintains control of workflow
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Exposure to home care elements: inclement weather, temperature extremes, possible safety/health risks of the home environment (pets, neighborhood crime, fire, infection)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance and push and pull up to 250 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat, kneel, reach, bend, crawl and twist throughout the shift
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing
- Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive, coordinated motions
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading
- Ability to handle and administer narcotics as needed
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations
