Certified Veterinary Technician - Surgery Lead
West Main Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our team as a Surgical Lead. This role will take ownership of surgical and procedure workflow while providing clinical leadership, training, and mentorship to the technician team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who wants to fully utilize their skillset with autonomy, trust, and support in a fast-paced, collaborative general practice environment. The Surgical Lead will help ensure procedures run efficiently and safely while serving as a resource and mentor for fellow technicians. From induction through recovery, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care alongside a veterinary team that values skilled technicians.
In this position, you will take an active role in:
- Managing daily surgical and procedure workflow, including scheduling, case preparation, and coordination with the veterinary team
- Preparing surgical and procedure areas and ensuring equipment and supplies are ready for each case
- Calculating and preparing anesthetic medications and drug dosages
- Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia patients
- Assisting veterinarians during surgical procedures
- Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
- Monitoring patient recovery and ongoing procedural care
- Managing surgical and procedural inventory, including maintaining appropriate stock levels and coordinating supply orders
- Training and mentoring CVTs and veterinary assistants in surgical, anesthesia, and procedural protocols
- Serving as a clinical resource for the technician team and helping promote consistent, high-quality patient care
- Guiding clients through patient admission and discharge with confidence and compassion
Schedule and compensation:
- Compensation: $25 - $31 per hour, for each hour worked
- This is a full-time position, with a 4/10 schedule and availability needed Monday through Thursday.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
- 3+ years of veterinary technician experience
- Active and good-standing Certified Veterinary Technician in the state of Oregon**
- Proficiency in the following skills:
- Patient assessment, nursing care, and monitoring
- Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Surgical assistance and aseptic technique
- Dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
- Venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
- Radiology positioning and safety protocols
- Medication administration and accurate drug calculations
- Laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostic testing
- Effective teamwork and professional communication skills
- Commitment to high-quality patient care and continuous learning
