Veterinary Assistant

Brawley Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

In this position, you will take an active role in:

  • Managing drop-off patients, tech appointments, nail trims, anal glands, and outpatient procedure support
  • Assisting doctors and technicians during exams and diagnostics, including running bloodwork and radiology
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care, including surgery induction
  • Performing phlebotomy and SQ injections as directed by the veterinary team
  • Setting up and supporting surgical cases, including patient prep and equipment readiness
  • Completing and managing drop-off paperwork and patient documentation accurately
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service — strong client communication skills are essential here
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $15 - 17 per hour, for each hour worked
  • Schedule: This is a full-time position, with a 4 x 10 schedule, Monday–Friday, with a set day off each week. Saturday coverage is required on rotating basis. Approximately 1 Saturday every 6 weeks. 
    • No on-call requirements.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 1+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role is required
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
    • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
    • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
    • Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs preferred
    • Phlebotomy & SQ injections
    • Radiology positioning and safety protocols
    • Laboratory sample collection and experience running in house diagnostic testing
