Veterinary Assistant

Above and Beyond Animal Care is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and provide excellent support to our patients, clients, and veterinary team.

This is a great opportunity for a dependable, motivated assistant who enjoys a variety of responsibilities in a busy veterinary hospital. The ideal candidate is comfortable supporting patient care, surgery, radiology, laboratory procedures, and inpatient care while working collaboratively with the veterinary team.

In this position, you will take an active role in:

  • Assisting technicians and veterinarians with patient care, basic restraint, treatments, and procedures
  • Preparing patients, equipment, treatment areas, and surgical suites for appointments and procedures
  • Performing radiology positioning and assisting with diagnostic imaging
  • Performing phlebotomy and assisting with laboratory sample collection
  • Administering subcutaneous injections as directed by the veterinary team
  • Providing attentive inpatient care and monitoring patients throughout their stay
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Supporting the veterinary team with daily hospital needs and maintaining a smooth patient flow

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $20 - $21 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full-time position with a 5/8 schedule and availability needed Monday through Friday.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments. Large animal handling experience is highly desired.
    • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
    • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles
    • Venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
    • Radiology positioning and safety protocols
    • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
    • Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely throughout the workday

This is a good-faith estimate based on the role's requirements at the time of posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Pay Range
