Veterinary Assistant - Part-time/Weekends
Burlingame Family Pet Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for a weekend-only position, with shifts available Saturday and/or Sunday. Burlingame Family Pet Hospital is currently operating out of our partner hospital, Village Square Woodside in Redwood City, while we work to secure a temporary location in San Carlos. Weekend team members will initially work at the Woodside location, with the expectation that the team will transition to a location within 30 minutes of Burlingame once secured.
This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to utilize their skillset across patient care, client service, surgery, dentistry, and outpatient procedures. We are seeking dependable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask efficiently, anticipate team needs, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering exceptional support throughout every stage of the patient visit.
In this position, you will take an active role in:
- Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgical procedures, and dentistry
- Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
- Preparing patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
- Monitoring anesthesia and supporting patient recovery as directed by the veterinary team
- Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
- Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
- Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
- Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
Schedule and compensation:
- Compensation: $29 - $32 per hour, plus a $2 per hour weekend differential
- Part-time, weekend-only position with 8-hour shifts scheduled on Saturday and/or Sunday

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
- 5+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant role preferred
- Proficiency in the following skills:
- Safe, low-stress animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Patient assessment, nursing care, and monitoring
- Anesthetic monitoring and recovery
- Surgical assistance and aseptic technique
- Dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
- Venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
- Medication administration and accurate drug calculations
- Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
