Veterinary Hospital Manager

Abel Pet Clinic is seeking an experienced Veterinary Hospital Manager to lead daily hospital operations while remaining actively involved in clinical care. This is a hands-on leadership role, with at least 50% of the position spent working alongside the nursing and hospital team on the floor.

The ideal candidate is an experienced veterinary professional who can move comfortably between clinical nursing and hospital management. A California-licensed RVT is strongly preferred, along with previous veterinary hospital management or leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Clinical Nursing: Spend at least 50% of your time on the floor, providing hands-on support across appointments, surgery, dentistry, and procedures, including anesthesia and patient care.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee daily hospital workflow, scheduling, inventory, equipment, safety, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, DEA, VMB), while helping implement hospital policies and procedures.
  • Financial Management: Monitor hospital performance, manage budgets and payroll, and use hospital data to identify opportunities for operational improvement and growth.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop the hospital team; oversee hiring and onboarding; support staffing and scheduling; and promote a positive, accountable workplace culture.
  • Client Service: Support the client service team, help resolve client concerns, and promote a consistent, compassionate client experience.
  • Hospital Development: Collaborate with the Medical Director and leadership team on hospital goals, process improvements, service development, and facility needs.

Schedule, Compensation & Benefits:

This is a full-time, hourly position with at least 50% of the schedule dedicated to clinical/on-the-floor responsibilities. Schedule flexibility is required based on hospital needs. This position is eligible for overtime for hours worked over applicable thresholds.

  • Compensation: $28 - $36 per hour, for each hour worked
  • Bi-annual bonus opportunities: Based on hospital performance
  • Hiring bonus package: $500 - $2000 based on experience and credentials
  • CE allowance: up to $1,000 based on credentials

Your Qualifications:

  • Veterinary hospital management experience required
  • 5+ years of veterinary clinical experience, with strong nursing skills
  • Active and good-standing Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license in California preferred
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop veterinary teams
  • Experience managing staffing, scheduling, budgets, payroll, and day-to-day hospital operations
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Proficient with business software and able to adapt quickly to new systems
