About the role:
We are seeking a UX Engineer / Design Technologist to join our dynamic product development team. In this high-impact role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to shape the future of the rapidly growing, multi-billion-dollar creator industry. Whalar is a unique player in this space, fostering an in-house product development team of over 60 professionals dedicated to defining the future of creator tools—the operating system for creators. You will be part of our design team reporting to the Director of Design.
This position is to be based in Estonia.
Here’s what you’ll do day to day:
- Design System Leadership: Develop, maintain, and evolve our design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and adherence to best practices in usability and accessibility.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering teams to ensure seamless implementation of designs, translating design specifications into functional components.Prototyping & Validation: Design and create interactive prototypes to validate design concepts, leveraging tools like Figma, V0, Replit, Cursor etc to accelerate iteration.
- Design Pattern Development: Help frame and plan new design patterns required by the product, ensuring they align with both industry and platform standards.
- Specification and Guidelines Writing: Write clear specifications for new features and components, and define guidelines for their usage to ensure consistency across the product.
- Agile Development Support: Support the development team in an agile environment, ensuring the fastest possible implementation of designs without compromising on quality.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular reviews and audits of the design system, implementing improvements based on user feedback and evolving design practices.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Experience: 6+ years of experience in product design with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to create user-centric digital experiences
- Technical Proficiency: Deep familiarity with modern design-to-code workflows. Solid understanding of front-end technologies and capable of collaborating in environments that use Tailwind CSS and component libraries like shadcn/ui. Bonus if you’ve used AI-powered dev environments like Cursor or are excited about integrating design with code at speed and scale.
- Tools: Experience with design documentation tools and version control systems.
- Collaboration: Experience of working within fast-paced, ever-changing, agile development teams. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential in our fully remote team. The ability to take in and give constructive feedback is a must.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a talent for turning complex problems into simple, elegant solutions.
- Proactive mindset: Ability to make things happen with limited direction
- Communication: Strong communication skills in English
The extra mile:
- Industry knowledge and deep understanding of the influencer/creator ecosystem and the unique players and challenges in this field
- Experience in developing B2B SaaS platforms
- Familiarity with OKRs
- Contributions to open-source design systems or active participation in design and development communities.
