Job Title: Social Distribution & Content Strategist (Freelance)

Contract Type: Freelance / Project-Based (Est 8-16 hours per week)

Duration: Mid/Late-February to Mid-April

Whalar is the leading, most awarded, independent Creator and Social agency.  We transform brands into cultural drivers by unlocking the full creative power of Creators.

We go beyond the conventional social and influencer strategy. We have the technology and methodology to tap into the beating pulse of communities, listen to nuances that move culture, and connect brands in ways that make them unforgettable.

With hubs in London, Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles, our reach is global. In London, we proudly collaborate with clients such as Diageo, eBay, Nike, Oatly, Skyscanner, Twinings, Uber, Vodafone, and many more.

About the role:

We are seeking a Social Distribution & Content Strategist to architect the rollout of a multi-market video podcast / content series across YouTube, Meta, TikTok, Apple and Spotify. This individual will be responsible for the packaging of the show content, ensuring that our documentary-style long-form films (think Vice meets Diary of a CEO) are engineered for maximum discoverability and engagement across our targeted platforms. This is an upfront planning role designed to build the infrastructure that our client will then ultimately execute against. Key responsibilities include:

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

Strategic Social Planner

  • Define how YouTube (Long-form), YouTube Shorts, Spotify, and social cutdowns (TikTok/Instagram) interconnect to drive viewership and engagement.
  • Advise the production team on the volume and variety of assets required (e.g., "Do we have enough hooks?") to ensure the series is distribution-ready before we even wrap the shoot.
  • Adapt the content rollout for a European audience, ensuring cultural nuances and language considerations are woven into the calendar.

Social Optimisation

  • Design a framework for A/B testing thumbnails, titles, and metadata. Establish a feedback loop where learnings from Episode 1 immediately inform the packaging of Episode 2 (max 5 episodes).
  • Craft high-click-through titles and keyword descriptions that satisfy both the user and the search algorithm.
  • Direct the visual design of thumbnails to ensure they compete at the highest level and work with the platform algorithms.

Planning & Copywriting

  • Deliver a comprehensive infrastructure calendar mapping the content distribution ecosystem, that the client can utilise, detailing exactly what goes live, where, and when.
  • Write high-engagement social copy that adheres to strict regulatory guardrails (pharma/medical experience preferred and documentary style background preferred).
  • Collaborate with the media planning team to ensure organic strategy and paid amplification are perfectly synced.

Production Consultation

  • Advise the Director and DP during pre-production on "social-first" moments (e.g., specific high-tension questions, visual hooks, or "thumbnail-ready" poses) to capture during the shoot.

Our Values:

At Whalar, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) isn't just a statement, it's our collective strength. Our people are our superpower. A diverse team and inclusive leadership have shaped Whalar since our inception in 2016, fueling a constant evolution of growth. We hire individuals of all backgrounds and empower them to thrive, challenge stereotypes, and actively break societal barriers.
