Whisper Aero is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the Air Management function. This role will primarily function as a mechanical engineering subject-matter expert and will be focused on mechanical design, prototyping, and evaluation. The role will be within Whisper’s Air Management integrated product team (IPT), designing quiet motors for commercial and residential applications. The role will flex onto non-motor projects within the Air Management IPT that require development and testing. The successful candidate will be comfortable both working with their hands as well as working at a computer. They will have experience taking electro-mechanical products from concept through production. They will be eager to ask questions and build new insights into how things work.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, prototype, and evaluate the mechanical design of new motors for commercial and residential applications.
- Interface with motor suppliers.
- Develop analysis tools and best practices for the team to follow based on your experience and subject matter expertise.
- Participate in and lead design reviews.
- Develop test and evaluation plans and present and document results.
- Mentor other members of the Mechanical Engineering team.
Required Qualifications:
- US Person Status Required.
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent) and at least 10 years work experience, with at least 7 years of experience in electric motors
- Experience in consumer or industrial product design is required
- Requires proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Requires proficiency with GD&T per ASME Y14
- Experience designing electric motors, electromechanical systems, bearings, and/or seals is required
- Knowledge of electric motor architectures is required
- Must have exceptional communication and documentation skills
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience analyzing electric motors for noise and vibration, rotordynamics, and/or thermal performance.
- Designing for the following processes: injection molding, machining, additive manufacturing, and/or composites laminates and assemblies.
- Able to run advanced FEA analysis (non-linear, modal, automated analyses, topology optimization, etc…)
- Experience with schedule, cost, and risk management within the context of engineering projects
- Experience using PDM tools for CAD data management
