Gas Scheduler - Marketing and Logistics

Austin, TX

Position Summary:

Whitewater is seeking a Gas Scheduler to perform wholesale natural gas scheduling in support of its Marketing & Logistics division. Whitewater markets and trades physical gas across most of the Lower 48, and this role works directly with the trading desk to execute daily nominations, manage gas flows, and ensure physical delivery across multiple interstate and intrastate pipelines. The right candidate has scheduled for a merchant trading book, understands how scheduling decisions affect the desk’s positions, and is comfortable working under pressure in a time-sensitive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Submit timely and accurate nominations for physical gas purchases, sales, and transportation across interstate and intrastate pipelines.
  • Work directly with traders throughout the day to schedule new trades, intraday changes, and cuts, keeping physical flows aligned with commercial intent.
  • Schedule transport, pooling, and storage activity in support of the desk’s positions.
  • Monitor pipeline constraints, critical notices, and maintenance events; adjust nominations to avoid penalties or imbalances and flag issues to the desk quickly.
  • Confirm volumes with pipelines and counterparties and resolve scheduling discrepancies.
  • Track and reconcile scheduled vs. actual volumes across receipts and deliveries, and support imbalance management efforts.
  • Maintain accurate transaction, nomination, and confirmation records in the ETRM system (Allegro).
  • Collaborate with risk, contracts, and accounting teams to support daily P&L accuracy, actualization, invoice validation, and audit processes.
  • Stay informed on market fundamentals, weather, and pipeline events that affect flow reliability and scheduling requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of natural gas scheduling experience at a merchant marketing or trading company, scheduling in direct support of a trading desk (required).
  • Hands-on experience scheduling a trading book, including intraday trade changes, transport and pool management, and day-to-day coordination with traders.
  • Working knowledge of NAESB nomination cycles, pipeline EBBs, and pipeline tariff procedures.
  • Experience with ETRM systems (Allegro preferred) and scheduling tools (e.g., NatGasHub).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Energy Management, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines and respond quickly to operational changes.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to collaborate across departments.

Preferred Experience:

  • Scheduling experience across multiple pipelines and regions.
  • Familiarity with storage, park-and-loan, capacity release, and asset management arrangements.
  • Familiarity with balancing agreements and pooling logistics.

Benefits: This position is located in Austin, Texas and is an in-office position. Selected candidate is eligible for employer matched 401(k), medical, dental, vision, basic life and AD&D insurances and other benefit offerings.
