This is an exciting opportunity to join us as Senior Legal Counsel (maternity cover). Reporting to the General Counsel, you will be responsible for primary legal support for the commercial teams as we deepen and broaden our global sales footprint as well as advising on all product development and new product launches, together with providing keystone support for our internal quality and compliance teams. As Senior Legal Counsel at Elvie you will enjoy an extremely broad role, providing strategic legal advice on a wide variety of legal projects and challenges facing Elvie across all its countries of operation (US, Europe and beyond), with a particular focus on commercial, data & privacy and product matters. This is a highly visible and exciting role, offering exposure to all levels across the business, including C-suite & Board. Location: UK. The role could be fully remote, but if you like an in-person connection, we have an office in Bristol and staff in London have access to shared office space (via Hubble).
Employment type: 12m FTC (please note, you must have the right to work in the UK). Open to applicants seeking 3 or 4 days a week as well as full time working patterns (with salary pro-rated accordingly)
Salary range: £60,000 to £100,000 dependent on working pattern and experience
Ideal start date: Mid-October 2025
What you’ll be doing at Elvie:
- Primary legal support for EMEA and a growing international reach, reporting to and liaising closely with General Counsel.
- Supporting the commercial teams to strengthen current market position with existing and new vendors, including maximising revenues through D2C and retail marketplace activities, e.g. Amazon.
- Supporting the commercial teams to deliver expansion of new products into existing markets, as well as growing international reach by expanding current products into new markets.
- Providing all legal input for new product launches including regulatory requirements, clearance of all consumer facing information (advertising claims, IFU, packaging artworks, legal T&Cs, warranty etc),
- Working closely with our regulatory affairs and quality team to support on product regulatory issues, including horizon scanning, new country launches, regulatory filings, risk assessments, product warranties and any contentious product matters.
- Primary legal support for our product engineers during the product development process and liaising with in-house IP team to communicate IP protection needs and product research/user trials)
- Supporting operations teams on commercial supplier issues including negotiation of contracts.
- Privacy and Security: working closely with product and engineering teams to ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and responsible for in-house training and documentation.
- Strategic projects: Acting as a business partner to help structure and provide legal advice on new strategic initiatives launched by the company from time to time
- Managing external counsel and legal budgets relating to your areas of responsibility
- Preparing and conducting legal education and training for different teams across the business
What we are looking for:
- At least 8 PQE qualified lawyer in England & Wales
- Preferably some working knowledge of medical devices and consumer product regulation
- Experience in US and/or other countries is a bonus
- Trained in a top-tier private practice firm, and ideally also had in-house experience, (preferably in a start-up, tech, e-commerce and/or consumer electronics in-house environment)
- Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
- Ability to deliver commercial and pragmatic solutions and concise advice, with strong influencing and negotiating skills
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to juggle and prioritise a large number of competing matters and work to deadlines
- Self-motivated, independent and results-focused; with a willingness to roll up your sleeves, undertake a wide variety of tasks and to take ownership
- Adaptable and be able cope with change quickly, and be enthused and excited about what’s around the corner for us
- Most importantly, you must be keen to support the our mission, and like the idea of working in a fast-paced start-up environment where you can share your future
