Location and Flexibility

Our Senior Manager is an integral part of our Data & AI Advisory team at WillowTree. This role will have the option to be in a Work From Near (Hybrid) capacity based out of one of the following offices: Charlottesville, VA, Durham, NC, Columbus, OH, or Boston, MA, OR in a Work From Anywhere (Remote) capacity from within the U.S.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Data & AI Advisory with a rare blend of strategic vision and hands-on implementation expertise across Master Data Management (MDM), data quality, business rules engines, and AI-enabled governance tools

This senior-level role is ideal for someone who not only understands how to assess and architect governance strategies, but who has also led real-world implementations of enterprise MDM platforms, designed and deployed data quality rules, and configured business rule engines to support stewardship and compliance. You’ll also bring a forward-thinking view on how AI is transforming data governance—from automated policy enforcement to intelligent data classification.

You’ll serve as both advisor and implementer—guiding clients from assessment to rollout, and ensuring governance initiatives move beyond strategy decks into operational reality.

Responsibilities

  • Governance Strategy and  Execution
    • Lead end-to-end delivery of data governance initiatives, from current-state assessment through to design, configuration, and deployment of MDM and data quality solutions
  • MDM Implementation:
    • Define and implement MDM architectures across domains (customer, product, location, etc.), including match/merge logic, survivorship rules, golden record management, and integration with source/consumer systems
  • Business Rules Engine Configuration
    • Design and deploy rule sets for validation, standardization, hierarchy management, and workflow automation, leveraging built-in rule engines within platforms
  • Data Quality Deployment
    • Develop and implement data quality rules for profiling, cleansing, anomaly detection, and monitoring
    • Establish automated quality dashboards and KPIs to track improvement over time
  • Platform and Vendor Leadership:
    • Lead platform evaluations and tool selection processes for MDM, data quality, cataloging, and AI-enhanced governance
    • Align recommendations with enterprise architecture, scalability, and budget
  • AI-Enabled Governance
    • Integrate AI and ML models into governance workflows, such as entity resolution, metadata inference, data tagging, and intelligent stewardship workflows
  • Roadmap and Rollout Planning
    • Define phased implementation plans that include pilot domains, business alignment, change management, and success metrics for rollout
  • Stakeholder Leadership:
    • Engage senior business and technical leaders to align implementation efforts with enterprise data goals
    • Provide governance guidance during data modernization and platform migration programs

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, MDM, and enterprise data implementations
  • Demonstrated success leading and executing MDM implementations—from platform configuration to go-live support
  • Hands-on experience with MDM tools (e.g., Informatica MDM, Reltio, Ataccama, Semarchy), data quality platforms, and rules engines
  • Strong understanding of data stewardship, governance operating models, and policy enforcement
  • Practical knowledge of AI’s role in data governance, including enrichment, classification, and automation
  • Experience defining and deploying business rules frameworks for validation, matching, and standardization
  • Strong grasp of data integration patterns, APIs, and architecture required to embed governance tools across ecosystems
  • Effective communicator with a proven ability to lead cross-functional implementation teams and deliver results in complex enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and data privacy laws (e.g., FOIP, GDPR, HIPAA) as they relate to master and reference data

Bonus Points

  • Experience in regulated or public sector environments
  • Exposure to AI governance frameworks or Responsible AI programs
  • Working knowledge of data catalogs, data lineage, and metadata management tools
  • Familiarity with data mesh or data fabric patterns and hybrid cloud governance models
